Dragonsclaw Releases New Music Video "Battle Cry"

Australian traditional metal band Dragonsclaw released a new music video for the track "Battle Cry." The song appears on the latest LP "Judgement Day," which was released as a physical CD on August 2nd via Killer Metal Records. The song is a tribute to the late Mark Reale, guitarist and founder of Riot, who passed away in January of 2012.

The band commented: "Mark passed away while we were writing our album, in fact we were in the studio when we heard the news. What developed was our own tribute to Mark's legacy with Riot. You'll notice many Riot lyrical and song references here, this is of course deliberate, even down to the title of this track. In the Riot song 'Metal Soldiers' the lyrics say: 'Let me hear your battle cry...' They also speak of 'Metal Soldiers, marching through the night.' Well this is our reply to that...our lyric is 'Marching through the night... WE HEAR YOUR BATTLE CRY!' Indeed we did...R.I.P. Mark."

Dragonsclaw Premieres New Single

Metal has evolved over the course of its existence, sometimes to the point where its traditional styles have become the minority. The younger generation of fans that have missed out on trailblazers like Warlord, Jag Panzer, Agent Steel or Abattoir of the mid-80's can turn to a new hope down under with Australia's Dragonsclaw. The band burst upon the scene with the debut LP "Prophecy" back in March of 2012 and have finished work on the sophomore effort "Judgement Day." The Aussies just announced that they have signed on with Killer Metal Records in Germany for the album, expected this year.

Today, through Metal Underground.com, the band premiere's its new single "Watching My Every Move," the opening track off the new album, which features guest vocalist, Ex-Accept and current PowerWorld crooner David Reece. Dragonsclaw vocalist Giles Lavery explains: "[W]e wanted to hit hard, much the same way we did with the track "Darkness within" on our first album, but this one is a little more melodic than that though, it's just as heavy, but with a more melodic chorus."

Lavery went on to explain the meaning behind the single and the role of David Reece: "[T]he song is inspired by the 'Psycho' films, so the lyrics are a split personality, two voices talking to each other. I wasn't getting any satisfaction singing both parts myself...it just didn't have the right dynamic that i wanted, but the moment we got David Reece to jump in as the "other voice," it instantly worked!"

Warlord Announces New Lineup For Live Events

Bill Tsamis, founder of the legendary U.S. metal act Warlord, announced the band's new "live lineup." Though singer Rick Anderson will provide vocals on the upcoming release "The Holy Empire," the live vocalist will be Dragonsclaw singer Giles Lavery. In an announcement on the Warlord Fan Club Page on Facebook, Tsamis posted:

"First let me say this. When Mark, Rick, and I embarked on this new venture of doing a new Warlord album, I had no intention of doing any live shows, mostly because of my health situation (as many of you know). However, when we were invited by Oliver Weinsheimer of 'KEEP IT TRUE' to headline that German festival, and when I received clearance from my doctor that I could physically endure such a trip to Europe, suddenly we were approached by Greek promoters as well. Now, Thessaloniki and Athens were on the table.

"I realized (along with Mark) that the Warlord fans would primarily want to hear 'classic Warlord.' And as you know, there is a distinction between the 'classic Warlord' sound and the 'new Warlord' sound (which will one day become 'classic' as well). Although Rick is the perfect (ideal) singer for the 'new' Warlord, I knew we had to find someone who could approximate the 'higher range' style of the early Warlord vocalists. I had heard our friend Giles Lavery sing 'Lucifer's Hammer' already and I asked him to send me an audition tape of five songs... here, you will find excerpts from that audition tape (no 20 minute trailer here), and you will understand 'why' I (we) decided to go with someone like Giles, who is not only a great vocalist in the higher range (as well as the AOR style), but he is someone who has been a Warlord fan since his youth, and is a person who understands the mindset of 'the Warlord fan.'

"In sum, 'Rick is better suited to sing the new Warlord material while Giles is better suited to sing the classic Warlord material.' So, here is a taste of Giles Lavery as the Warlord vocalist for the upcoming live shows. The other players as mentioned above will be: Philip Bynoe (bass), Paolo Viani (guitar), and Angelo Vefeiadis (keyboards)."

Giles is also slated to provide vocals on the track "Kill Zone" for the new release. For a taste of Lavery, Warlord posted his live singer audition, which can be heard here: More...

Dragonsclaw Reveals First Details On New LP

Traditional/classic metal act Dragonsclaw checked in with Metalunderground.com with the first details of the band's upcoming EP and full length follow up to the debut release "Prophecy" (See review at this location).

In a full interview with vocalist Giles Lavery (to be posted later this week), the band is currently in the process of completing the writing process for the follow up to "Prophecy," which started in November 2011. As Lavery explains, the band plans to release an extended EP/single entitled "Judgement Day" in late November as a prelude to the yet untitled full length release in 2013:

"We have about 15 tracks in various states of completion, and we are at the moment making the selection process of the strongest ideas…there will be an EP out around late November which will be in advance of the album…the title is 'Judgement Day' this is our single and first taste of the album, it a very catchy metal track, similar in some ways to “Angels in White” off the first but a little harder. Also on the EP will be 4 other non-album tracks, that are very very good indications of the growth of the songwriting. Those tracks are titled “Watching My Every Move” “Fear” “Battle Cry” and “Eternally”. Rounding out this rather long EP (for a low EP price) will be a couple cover tunes of some classic underground metal tracks many will know… and 2 live songs from our recent tour with Steve Grimmett."

Stay tuned for the full interview to follow later this week.

Dragonsclaw Issues New Album Update

Austrailian traditional metal band Dragonsclaw issued an update on the band's forthcoming sophomore effort. The band's self-titled debut was released last year at the tail end of 2011 (see Metal Underground's review at this location). In a post on the band's Facebook page, vocalist Giles Lavery gave the following update:

"SECOND ALBUM - STUDIO UPDATE #1 :

"Hello all , Well, a VERY long day of band photography and demoing new songs comes to an end.... we now have as of today 10 demos recorded...now the revising, re-working and re-writing begins... as we build upon what we have.

"There are at least 2 more tracks to be demoed in the coming weeks... so album 2 is well underway, the whole band is coming up with some fantastic songs, some sure to please fans of the first album and some others than can best be described as a growth songwriting wise... Ben is coming up with some great melodic (and very heavy) parts and really working hard on his already killer guitar work. Ray has a new Keyboard set up and it is limitless in its variety of sounds and what it can do, Aaron is contributing in a big way with loads of great ideas for the tunes.... I have recorded rough vocals for the tracks and continue to write and re-write lyrics and vocal melodies... it's all coming together nicely.

"This album will encompass a much great scope of sounds... from the Fast and heavy to the melodic and the truly epic to the traditional metal approach of much of the first album and some slower darker moments too
.... more to come

- Giles."
