The Safety Fire recently returned from an extensive U.S. tour with Between The Buried & Me, The Faceless, and The Contortionist, in support of second album "Mouth Of Swords."
As is the tradition for the band, The Safety Fire documented the entire run and you can now view the video for the title track off the latest album which features footage of life on the road. Check it out below. Guitarist Derya ‘Dez’ Nagle had this to say:
"We had an incredible time touring the US with some amazing friends. It was great to be playing new music again and we can't wait to get on the road again. Our bodies are oiled and are ready to bring a sexual heat to this bitter cold. People of Europe. Prepare yourselves." More...
Between The Buried and Me have done some crazy things, such as playing "Colors" live in its entirety and following the hour-long album with a second complete set of fan-picked favorites. They've also been selling bundles of their latest album, "The Parallax II: Future Sequence," that include a full-size BTBAM NASA-themed space suit. It's safe to say that the bar on what constitutes 'crazy' for this band is set rather high. For the whole 35-date tour, which had started on September 13th in North Carolina, the band decided to go full crazy again and perform "Future Sequence," their longest album to date, in its entirety.
Moreover, they were bringing a slew of other near-virtuoso-level bands with them to add even more moments of jaw-dropping to the mix for the show. The Faceless, modern kings of start-stop melodic death metal, The Contortionist, a band pushing the boundaries of metal as much as they push the boundaries of jazz and djent, and The Safety Fire, groove-centric prog lads from overseas, rounded out the lineup. These Herculean feats of skill were all to close out the tour in Nashville, TN on October 25th at The Cannery Ballroom. More...

Progressive Nation is hitting the high seas in 2014! The inaugural sailing will occur on February 18th - 22nd 2014 on the luxurious Norwegian Pearl heading from Miami to Great Stirrup Cay and Freeport, Bahamas. The lineup includes:
Transatlantic, Portnoy Sheehan Macalpine Sherinian, Jon Anderson, Adrian Belew's Power Trio, Devin Townsend, King's X, Spock's Beard, The Flower Kings, Pain Of Salvation, Riverside, Animals As Leaders, The Safety Fire, Tony Harnell & Bumblefoot, Bigelf, Beardfish, The Dear Hunter, Haken, Jolly And Next To None
Progressive Nation founder Mike Portnoy elaborates:
"In 2008 & 2009, I created a touring package called 'Progressive Nation' and with Dream Theater headlining, we did three full tours (two in North America and one in Europe) that showcased a variety of bands that embraced the spirit and musicality of progressive music.
"Well after a 5 year hiatus, I have decided to resurrect Progressive Nation and this time we are taking it to the seas! But rather than a 4 band bill like previous Progressive Nation tours, we have expanded the bill to OVER A DOZEN of today's greatest progressive bands, musicians and artists! (and there may be one or two more still to be confirmed)
"Myself and my former DT bandmate Derek Sherinian have teamed up with Sixthman (who have done incredibly successful cruises with Kid Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the annual Kiss Cruise to name a few) as well as our friends at InsideOut Music and look forward to a very successful inaugural launch of Progressive Nation at Sea Feb 18th thru 22nd 2014. London progressive metallers The Safety Fire are excited to announce the release of their forthcoming second album, "Mouth Of Swords," on September 3rd in North America via InsideOut Music.
The band has been hard at work on the album for the past few months, and vocalist Sean McWeeney had this to say about the completion of the record: "Since our first album we've all concentrated more on having awesome haircuts and facial hair. Does that go some way to explaining why 'Mouth of Swords' is shit hot? Some may suggest so. But all I know is I'm on it and that's enough for most people. This album is pure gold, and will be priced accordingly."
Guitarist and producer Derya "Dez" Nagle had this to add about the release announcement and album recording: "I must have said 'there is no topping Winger's 1988 classic 'Winger' on a daily basis during the recording process. I've never been wrong about anything in my whole life, so it was a rather humbling experience to realize that what we were creating was in fact better than Winger's 1988 classic, 'Winger.' I felt like a bozo deluxe. After awhile I came to accept that we had created the best album of all time, ever, in the history of known time. The burden of holding such musical gold was too much for us to handle and the band agreed to release it through InsideOut Music, on September 3rd. I'd like to think the music can speak for itself, but music can't speak, so I'll speak on its behalf. Hello. I hope you enjoy me." More...
London progressive metallers The Safety Fire have been hard at work on their forthcoming second album and have been documenting the process through a studio diaries.
The fourth and final studio diary has now been released, and it shows the band enlisting the help of what has been dubbed the "Vest Choir." Check it out below.
Guitarist and producer Derya "Dez" Nagle comments about this uniquely dressed choir: "Nothing says community like a bunch of dudes hanging out in vests. If said dudes all decide to sing and shout in unison all the better. I would argue that church choirs would be much more popular if they encouraged members to wear vests. Vests are the future." It was recently announced that London-based progressive metallers The Safety Fire had entered the studio to begin recording a forthcoming second album, and the band has revealed the first in a series of studio diaries documenting that process.
First up are the drums, which were tracked at Middle Farm Studios in Devon. Guitarist and producer Derya "Dez" Nagle had this to say about The Safety Fire's time in the studio: "Calvin hit the drums a lot. We were all very impressed by how much and how well he hit the drums. He was very humble about the whole thing, but there was an overwhelming feeling that we all witnessed something very special. It was the start of a new movement, the humblist was born." More...
Progressive metallers The Safety Fire will enter London's The Dairy studio in mid-March to record their sophomore album and follow-up to "Grind The Ocean."
This currently untitled release will be produced again by the band's own Derya "Dez" Nagle (guitar). In regards to this upcoming album, Dez comments:
"We are extremely excited to be heading back into the studio to record the follow-up to our debut album, 'Grind The Ocean.' We have done some amazing tours in the last year and have really grown as a band.
"We are just really hyped about the new material. It has been great to get into this creative headspace. I'll try to avoid all the usual band clichés of saying how this album will be 'heavier and more melodic than the first,' but what I will say is this will be the best album of all time. Ever." More...
The Safety Fire was due to kick off a run of U.K. shows with The Faceless on January 30th, but the band has now checked in with the following announcement about canceling the tour:

Aside from releasing our debut album, touring the States and Europe and playing some amazing festivals, we have had the pleasure of playing with some awesome bands. We are glad to see the trend is continuing on into 2013, with what is set to be an amazing tour with The Faceless. Exciting times ahead. Hype." More...

After an extremely busy summer playing Download Festival, Brutal Assault, Hevy Festival and supporting Gojira overseas, The Safety Fire is excited to be joining Periphery and Between The Buried and Me for a month-long tour of Europe. In regards to the tour, guitarist Derya 'Dez' Nagle comments:
"It has been a while since we last toured Europe and the UK and quite frankly, we can't wait for it. Between the Buried and Me are one of our favourite bands and to share a stage with them every night for over a month is just awesome. Then to be reunited with our brüs in Periphery after our US stint with them will no doubt be a fun time for all. We shall see you at the shows, come by the merch stand and get involved in the jokes!"
The Safety Fire will be touring in support of debut album, "Grind The Ocean," which was released to critical acclaim at the beginning of April this year through InsideOut Music. The Safety Fire released debut album "Grind The Ocean" at the beginning of April this year through InsideOut Music. The band recently finished a UK tour with French metal titans Gojira, which followed a show at this year's Download Festival at Donington Park. The band documented these dates and have created a live video for the track "DMB (FDP)." Dez explains a bit more about how the video was made and why they picked this track in particular:
"'DMB (FDP)' is one of our favourite songs to play live and was an obvious choice for this video. We love touring, and wanted to give a wider audience a glimpse into what our live show is all about. We filmed over several UK dates, including our performance at Download and our recent run with GOJIRA. We were lucky enough to have our good friend Jamie Carter produce the video, whose eclectic credits include RISE TO REMAIN, CONOR MAYNARD, FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND and PROFESSOR GREEN to name a few. Other filming duties were handled by our friends and crew including our brü Adam Nolly Getgood, who recently joined PERIPHERY. More importantly this video will help spread the message of #FDP. Jokes." More...

Comments BTBAM bassist Dan Briggs: "I'm excited Europe wants to have us again! On this tour we'll celebrate the release of our new album, so you'll be some of the first to hear new songs…if we can actually play them by then!"
