Cruciamentum Splits With Two Members

U.K. outfit Cruciamentum just issued this announcement online about parting ways with two members:

"It is with regret that we announce the departure of R.C. and D.B-H. from Cruciamentum. We would like to thank them for all their efforts over the years and we wish them both all the best with their future creative endeavours.

"R.B. will be taking the guitar position and we are currently seeking a bassist and drummer for auditions in June. Cruciamentum is currently based between the Midlands and the Central Belt of Scotland. Rehearsals are infrequent and will be arranged around the location of the new line-up.

"Anyone interested please email cruciamentumDOTukATgooglemailDOTcom, applicants must be familiar with our material, own high quality equipment and be willing and available to tour abroad.

"The webstore will be closed down and merch orders will not be taken for the following weeks until we have had time to move and arrange our stocks. In the meantime Charnel Passages and shirts are available from Profound Lore Records, and Engulfed in Desolation is available from Martyrdoom Productions. Bolt Thrower Levels Chaos in Tejas

Death metal was one of the hot topics at this year’s Chaos in Tejas festival in Austin, Texas. Although punk rock permeates throughout the festival (The Damned headlined a show on the prior night), the ninth installment promised rare performances from two pioneering acts from England, Benediction and Bolt Thrower. Both bands are touring the States together. Unlike their gigs with Autopsy in California, Benediction and Bolt Thrower played on separate days.

I recall buying a computer desk from the sheet-metal warehouse that the promoters dubbed “E 11 5” and turned into a venue (at least for the festival). Even though the venue was not as cramped at Benediction’s show at Red 7, the sold out crowd’s body heat raised the temp to uncomfortable levels. When the temperature became unbearable, an outdoor vendor area on the grass presented a cool retreat. This area was a good place to talk to the fans including a group from Sweden and an ex-Z Rock disc jockey who informed us one of the members of Dokken was in attendance. More...

MDF 2013 Location Announced

With Sonar closing, the location of 2013's Maryland DeathFest XI was up in the air. The organizers have finally announced that the fest will be held in the same location as last year, and will be expanded. Maryland DeathFest XI will take place in Baltimore, Maryland on Memorial Day weekend, May 23-26, 2013. Tickets go on sale on October 15th at 12 pm (EST). You can read the entire update below:

We're a day early with this announcement, but we can finally let you know where MDF XI will be taking place.

In a nutshell, we will be returning to the property formerly known as Sonar, and will be at least doubling the amount of outside space that we've been used to utilizing. We realize that it's a bit of a mind fuck to wait around for a few months just to hear that the fest is returning to the same place, but truth be told, the other places we looked at were either not able to give us a definite answer anytime soon, and/or had too many inconveniences that we did not want to put the fans through. During the venue search, it was brought to our attention that the new owners of the property were willing to collaborate with us, so we decided to go through with returning to a familiar place that is close to the hotels and conveniences of downtown Baltimore.

The additional space outside will allow us to comfortably accommodate the crowd, and will allow more room for the MDF vendor village, food vendors/food trucks, places to sit, and other new additions like misting tents to escape the possibility of it being hotter than it should be that weekend. There will be two outside stages plus the stage inside. Due to the new configuration outside, the placement of the outside stages will likely be different.
As for the building itself, there are some renovations currently taking place, but the rooms will be used exactly how they have been in the past, and it will be air conditioned throughout.

We would also like to announce the addition of a second inside stage at Baltimore Soundstage, which is a 1/2 mile walk away from the former Sonar (at 124 Market Place), and will be used from Friday-Sunday. This will be a smaller show without a barricade that will feature mostly hardcore and punk bands, and it will be scheduled in a way that should not conflict with anything going on at the former Sonar compound. All of the bands for this stage will be included in next week's announcement on October 9th.

The latest list of bands playing at this time is as follows: More...

Mournful Congregation Gathers Doom Cult in Austin

Aussie doom merchants, Mournful Congregation have filled U.S. households with feelings of bereavement, loss and forlorn for nearly twenty years. However, this is the first time the funeral doom act brought its musical misery to North American stages. Doom, especially the extremely slow pace of funeral doom, doesn’t always translate so well under lime lights. Mosh-hungry concert goers might find its slothful pace paralytic to their limbs or these bands just don’t tour often due to one reason or another. Either way, seeing one of the greats in this field on their first North American tour was nearly as monumental as the group’s music.

After sharing the stage with Mournful Congregation just a day or two prior at Rites of Darkness III in San Antonio, Anhedonist, Ritual Necromancy, Pallbearer and Cruciamentum came together for one of best extreme metal bills featuring bands you’ve never heard of. Considering this show fell on a Monday (late Monday night) and included bands without a large following (the crowd seemed most aware of Mournful Congregation), fans squeezed into the tiny space in front of Mohawk’s indoor stage.
