Danish metal four piece Rising just completed work on a forthcoming third album to be released in April of 2016 as the band gears up for a string of first shows in over two years.
Formed in 2008, Rising released two DIY EPs, building momentum with the "To Solemn Ash" debut LP in 2011 and the follow-up "Abominor" in 2013. Following the recordings of "Abominor," the trio dissolved, and as the sole remaining member guitarist Jacob Krogholt has since then rebuilt the band with original drummer Martin Niemann, bass player Bjarke Kofoed and singer Morten Grønnegaard.
The new Rising lineup entered the studio in August and September to record the band's third album with producer Jacob Bredahl (By The Patient, The Kandidate, etc.), who also mixed the effort, while Brad Boatright (Nails, Converge, etc.) has overseen the mastering.
The yet-untitled album consists of ten songs, still undeniably Rising in its crushing heaviness, firm songwriting and intricate arrangements, while Grønnegaard with his more melodic vocals lends a classic metal vibe to the band. The album will be released via Indisciplinarian in April and will be backed by touring in the group's native Denmark and abroad. Currently announced dates include: More...
Danish sludge metal combo, Rising, has reformed with a new full-time studio and live lineup, and will return to the scene in 2015 with new live performances and the recording of a third studio LP.
Since the band's formation in 2008 and the release of their self-titled debut EP in 2009, Rising has been a promising and uncompromising act on the metal scene, both locally and internationally. After two DIY EPs, the band displayed their relentless, crushing sound, fierce musicianship and a strong sense for melody and songwriting on two full-length albums, "To Solemn Ash" (2011) and "Abominor" (2013). Rising backed the initial EPs and the debut release with several tours in Denmark and mainland Europe along with festival appearances such as Roskilde, Copenhell and Hultsfred. Yet, as momentum was building, so was also tension within the band and just after the recording of Abominor, the trio disbanded, leaving the future of Rising and the new album uncertain. "Abominor" subsequently saw its release on guitarist Jacob Krogholt's newly founded label Indisciplinarian, but no shows we're played in connection with the album.
Unwilling to see the band dissolved, main composer Krogholt quickly teamed up with original drummer Martin Niemann, a member between 2008 and 2010, with the intention of carrying on the band, if the original chemistry of the two founding members remained intact. The initial jams in the fall of 2013 proved that the spark was indeed present and over the next year and a half the duo wrote a wide variety of material, which was to be the backbone of the next album. Along the way, several musicians were tried out, but first in December 2014 new members started to enter the band. Now, after two years of writing, demoing and trying out new musicians for the band, the new Rising lineup is finally complete:
Morten Grønnegaard - Vocals
Jacob Krogholt - Guitars
Carl Peter - Guitars
Bjarke Lassen - Bass
Martin Niemann - Drums More...
Danish outfit Rising has checked in with the following new year message and band update:
"As you know, Rising has gone through severe changes since this past summer. Members leaving, the release of the band's second album 'Abominor' with no shows to back it up and foremost contemplating the band's future and getting Martin back in the band. Now we can truly say, that we're in a good place with lots of common will, joy and plans for the time to come.
"In the last couple of months we've been busy writing and recording new material. We've just finished up demos of five new songs, and we've got a lot of other riffage and ideas for the coming months. As the old cliché goes, we're super excited about the new stuff - we really are! It points a bit back to the early more psychedelic, heavy days of Rising, while having a strong classic metal vibe with lots of RIFFS! More...
"Abominor," the sophomore full-length album from Danish crew Rising, is today officially available through the band's own newly-formed label, Indisciplinarian. You can stream the full album now at TheObelisk.net here. The following press release was issued about the band:
"Bursting with just under forty minutes of jacked-up metallic thunder, Abominor presents a more aggressive and gritty side to the Rising sound while remaining true to the heavy, melodic tendencies that have been trademarks of the band since inception.
"Dynamic elements of contemporary stoner/sludge kingpins like Torche and Mastodon go head-to-head with infectious old-school riffery surging with ominous, Lovecraftian low-end thunder and incredibly infectious hooks, like Thin Lizzy covering Master Of Puppets, all with a black-blooded back-alley punk/crust vibe infiltrating the mix.
"To give the humans fair warning of Abominor's unveiling today, the Taskmaster over at The Obelisk has racked up a stream of the entire LP alongside some exclusive commentary from the band on the new label venture and current state of the band." More...
As the band's second LP nears release, Danish act Rising has unchained another declaration of thunderous riffage from the raging beast that is "Abominor."

As previously announced, Danish metal troupe Rising has confirmed November 4th as the worldwide street date for new album, "Abominor," set for release through guitarist Jacob Krogholt's newly formed label, Indisciplinarian.
Following its recent premiere on Danish National Radio, today, the fourth of the album's nine raging anthems, "The Hills Below," is now streaming via Youtube. Check it out below.
"Abominor" contains nearly forty minutes of new material, displaying a faster, more aggressive and gritty side to the Rising sound, incorporating more punk and crust influences, while remaining true to the melodic heaviness that has been a trademark of the band from the beginning. The album is produced by Jakob Reichert Nielsen, who also produced the band's self-titled debut-EP as well as the "To Solemn Ash" album. More...
Danish doom-infused metal outfit Rising today confirms the release of a pending second LP this Fall, on the band's own newly-founded independent label, Indisciplinarian. The following press release was issued about the coming album:
"After two crushing EPs, Rising released debut album 'To Solemn Ash' via Exile On Mainstream in 2011, after which the band toured extensively, playing more than fifty shows throughout Europe. In the meantime, the band forged new and fiercer material, fuelled by growing differences within the band. The result is Rising's second album, 'Abominor,' now confirmed for an early November release. The album was to be the final material from this particular constellation of the band, marking the end of an era, and a new beginning...
"Containing nine tracks running nearly forty minutes in duration, Abominor displays a faster, more aggressive and gritty side to the Rising sound. With the songwriting process the band envisioned a somewhat harsher and loose album as a development from the more epic and melodic songs of To Solemn Ash, incorporating more punk influences while remaining true to the trademark Rising sound. Abominor was produced by Jakob Reichert Nielsen, who also produced the band's To Solemn Ash LP and their debut EP, and the artwork created by singer/bassist Henrik Hald.
"However, Abominor is to be the last album from this incarnation of Rising. The year leading up to the recording of the album had shown severe disagreements creatively and personally within the band, and upon completion of the album, drummer Johansen and singer/bassist Hald left the band. Abominor thereby signifies the end of an era for Rising and as a result of the demise, there will be no tours or live performances directly in support of the album. More...
