1349, named for the year the plague hit Norway in the 14th Century, found immediate cult status with the recording and release of their self-titled mini-album in 2001. Word of mouth spread like the plague about the band's musical offering, and Frost, who initially joined the group as a session musician, would later ask to become a permanent member. Vocalist Ravn, guitarists Tjalve and Archaon, and bassist Seidemann agreed and 1349 was complete. The band signed to Candlelight Records in late 2002.

We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories from metal shows. This week Teloch of Nidingr, and now also of Mayhem, sent in a pit story along with some photo evidence:
Ok, this was back when I was doing guitars in 1349. We played a festival here in Europe; I don't remember what festival it was, but I'm guessing this was in 2007. Celtic Frost played the same festival, and we were just back from doing a tour with them in North America, so we got to know them pretty well. As soon as CF started their gig at this festival I was starting to get drunk, hence I was having a good time and wanted to raise some hell.
Together with Mustis from Dimmu Borgir, I went to the production office and got some tools to work with. I ended up with a poster with a message to Franco their drummer, as I also did a couple of times when we did the tour with them. I think one of the posters read: "Franco, I have AIDS," which I was waving around in the pit, hiding my face so that none of the guys in CF could see who the idiot with the poster was.
At this time I took it a step further; since I was playing at the festival I had a backstage pass. So I went up onstage, started to mosh around the Celtic guys with the poster taped around my body. For the finale, I stagedived head first with my hands to my side, headbutting at least two other heads before I landed, fainted, woke up with no shoes, and had to take the van back with Celtic Frost to our hotel after the gig. Tom G. did not seem very happy with my stunt, but I for one, had a good time.

Norwegian black metal act 1349 has checked in with the following end-of-year update and announcement about lining up new shows for 2011:
"2010 marks the end of an era for 1349. With new cooperation partners Twisted Talent (booking), PHD (merchandise) and last but not least, Indie Recordings as the chosen label, 1349 have prepared their next audible assault, filled to the brim with abyssic darkness and hellish energy. This release - by far their most brutal to this date - creates a great deal of friction in terms of differences from their previous efforts, and in addition brings several untraditional creative elements, another proof of the band’s innovative take on Black Metal.
"Alongside a US/Canadian tour, the band kicks off the new decade with a string of one-off European shows including the bands 1st ever show in Finland and several high-profile festivals such as Wacken and Summer Breeze."
The organisers of France's biggest metal festival, Hellfest, has announced that four huge names have been added to next year's bill. Also confirmed for the festival are Swedish progressive metal favourites Opeth and Black Label Society, which features former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde. There are also more new confirmations in the form of German thrash legends Kreator and Sodom, Norwegian black metal veterans Mayhem, Anathema, Bolt Thrower and Therion. The festival will take place in Clisson, France from June 17th-19th.

Norwegian black metal act 1349 has posted the following update online after finishing its North American tour with Triptykon. You can read the update below:
"The Legion is back home in a snowy and wintery Norway, gathering strength for our next raid.
"First of all, we want to thank all our North American fans that came to our shows — we hope it was as enjoyable and intense for you as it was for us. Perhaps did we manage to ignite the flame in some of you that saw us for the first time...
"It was a great tour.
"Being on the road with Triptykon is nothing less than an honour, and the two bands truly enjoyed each other's company. We grew to like Yakuza a lot, too! Then, it's very inspiring for us — musically as well as spiritually — to perform 'Demonoir' material live. It's truly challenging, but when everything works; it's like succeeding with a dangerous act of black magic, where we get to open the gates to vast depths of darkness and connect with the immense powers that streams out of there. Getting to share it with you was special to us.
"We saw the U.S. leg of Weltenbrand as the tour that would conclude our touring cycle with 'Demonoir' in the U.S. and Canada. But as the tour is now finished, it feels like there is still work to be done with the album in North America. There were areas we didn't get to cover neither on the 'Weltenbrand' tour nor on the leg we did with Cannibal Corpse in the spring (Southeast, mainly); that's one thing, and there is also the sensation that the task simply isn't finished yet. So who knows — there might be another round! We will keep you posted and let you in on relevant developments.
"We most definitely haven't forgotten about our fans and supporters in Europe. Plans are made as this is written, plans that will result in an extensive 1349 tour around Europe. It has been oh so long since the last time, but we promise to make up for the time you have waited to again experience live Aural Hellfire. News regar

Triptykon frontman and former leader of Celtic Frost and Hellhammer, Tom G. Warrior has checked in with another update from Triptykon's first tour of North America. His message reads as follows:
"On tour again in North America. In April of 2008, when I departed Celtic Frost and began to lay the foundation for Triptykon, this was but a mere intention, the fulfillment of which was anything but certain. The utter dedication of the audiences we are playing to here, their loyalty, and their feedback thus means even more to me that it ordinarily would.
"On October 10, in Montreal, I was finally able to witness an entire concert by our esteemed special guests on this tour, Yakuza. I had previously only seen a couple of songs or so each night. In my eyes, they are truly extraordinary, both on a personal level as well as musically. Their songs are full of emotions, variety, energy, beauty, and agitation. Their performance requires perhaps a tad more open-mindedness than must ordinarily be mustered, but they are one of the rare contemporary heavy rock acts with the courage to pursue their own, very unique path. Even that fact alone commands respect and makes them as perfect for a tour with Triptykon as they would have been in a pairing with Celtic Frost. We in Triptykon have all become fans.
"The combination of the three bands on this tour, 1349, Yakuza, and Triptykon, could not be any more unique and, in my humble (and biased) opinion, effective. It is a tour unlike any other."
Norwegian black metal fiends, 1349, who are co-headlining the "Weltenbrand World Tour" with Tom Warrior's TRIPTYKON, have launched a tour diary on the blog section of their Myspace page. Read an excerpt of the diary below:
"1349 are in Canada. We had a terrific night in Montreal last night; the show was fiery and the crowd seemed to revel in dark ecstasy. We also got to experience a particularly powerful show by Triptykon, which fueled us up for our own performance. Voivod’s own hometown is always a boost! We bring the killer-vibe with us to The Wreck Room in Toronto tonight, where we know that 1349 has a strong following. The band has had several great shows in this town, but tonight happens to be the first where Frost gets to meet the Toronto-crowd."
"Yesterday even saw the live-premiere of the song Pandemonium Was Bells, and we are happy to state that it went down really well with the audience. The song might appear in our live-set every now and then when the stars are right…but there are a few other gems in store for you as well." More...
Triptykon frontman Tom G. Warrior (formerly of Celtic Frost and Hellhammer) has checked in with an online update after the band began its first tour of North America. His message reads as follows:
"Very late in the evening of October 5, 2010, Triptykon arrived at John F. Kennedy airport in New York, flying in from London. The very next day, we played the group's first concert on North American soil, at the Gramercy Theatre in Manhattan, thereby embarking on the Weltenbrand co-headlining tour of the US and Canada, together with 1349.
"The Gramercy was filled with long-time friends and new acquaintances alike. Painter/tattoo artist Vincent Castiglia, who is such a major contributor to Triptykon's first album, publisher Ian Christe of Bazillion Points, who gave me the astounding news that my second book Only Death Is Real will already go into its third printing run, the extraordinary Kim Kelly, HR Giger's US agent Les Barany, who photographed and filmed the concert, master sculptor Eli Livingston, the artist behind HR Giger's jewelry and Celtic Frost's pendant, who showed me the prototype of a proposed miniature sculpture based on 1984's The Sitting Death Hellhammer EP cover drawing. There were many more. How good it felt to return to touring in North America, finally, after the past three eventful years."
Norway's 1349 will bring its sonic plague back to North America in October for a co-headline tour with Triptykon, entitled, "Weltenbrand World Tour." Chicago's Yakuza will also appear on the bill. This will be 1349's second trek on this side of the Atlantic in support of the album "Demonoir," which was released in April on Prosthetic Records in North America. That last tour was cut short due to a volcanic eruption in Iceland and visa issues.
The band released the following statement: "2010 is a very special year for 1349. This is the year that saw the release of our pinnacle album 'Demonoir,' into which we have channeled the darkest and fiercest contents of our souls and given it an aural form. As the album was released, the band was already on American soil doing the first tour of the touring cycle as main support for Cannibal Corpse. We were obviously rather excited about how the songs would feel and sound live and thus of the crowd's reaction to the new material, but it turned out to work eminently. It felt fabulous! Furthermore, it became clear to us that we had to follow up what we had begun and go back to the States and play a headliner tour in the fall. This intent has turned into cold reality as we now embark on a co-headliner tour with Triptykon.
"Many of you are familiar with 1349's bonds to the creative mastermind Tom G. Warrior, and for us it's like pieces of a puzzle that fall into place as we now go on tour with Triptykon on their first journey to the U.S. We talk about two mighty forces that here will be joined; in 1349 we see it as nothing short of a great achievement that we could make it happen. We can promise you that 1349 will feed off this great happening, and we boldly state that every show on this Weltenbrand tour will be a triumph! We look STRONGLY forward to share some truly magical moments with our American fans on this tour, and judging from the reception we got on our short-but-sweet tour with CC this spring (hails!), this is gonna be A HELL OF A RIDE. To complete the line-up of this legendary 1349/Triptykon- tour, we have invited the splendid weirdos Yakuza as our special guests. 'Come feel the Fire'...as Overkill would have said." More...

Triptykon, the new band from Celtic Frost frontman Thomas G. Fischer, has announced some additional dates to their upcoming trek of the United States. Joining them on the tour will be 1349 and Yakuza. Speaking on the tour, Fischer stated:
"Ever since my earliest days in Hellhammer and Celtic Frost, I have been extremely fortunate to be able to count on the support, fanaticism, and immense loyalty of the North American metal scene. The recognition my work has received there eclipses anything I have ever encountered in my own native country. Of the 125 concerts performed on the final Celtic Frost tour in 2006 and 2007, for example, a full 71 were played in North America. Some of these performances rank among the most memorable ones in my entire career."
"It is thus an immense honor for me to now bring my new group Triptykon to North America for the first time. Triptykon is further pursuing the path I once began with Hellhammer and Celtic Frost, and I am looking forward to continuing to forge this darkest of musical alliances with all of you. We shall all celebrate masses of unleashed heaviness and morbidity. Only death is real!"

DIABOLIC has issues the following report:
"DIABOLIC has returned from our Tour Dates with CANNIBAL CORPSE on the 'Evisceration Plague' Tour and it was a great success!!
"Due to 1349 not being able to join the Tour on the first few dates, DIABOLIC were invited to join the Tour at the last minute, and we were able to play the following shows:
4/21 Atlanta, GA Masquerade
4/22 Raleigh, NC Tavern 11
4/23 Springfield, VA Jaxx
4/24 Philadelphia, PA Lotsa Metal (Headlining show, without CC)
4/25 Farmville, NY Crazy Donkey (with 1349)
"After 1349 was able to join the Tour in NY, unfortunately that meant the end of the Tour for us - we had stepped up and done exactly what we had set out to do, and it was time to head back to Tampa - but as a bonus, the fans in NY got to see DIABOLIC as well as 1349 on the same bill!!
"DIABOLIC played classic favorites such as 'Supreme Evil,' 'Marked for Banishment,' 'Ancient Hatred,' and 'Extinction Level Event,' in addition to showcasing new songs such as 'Evil in Disguise' and the Title Track from our upcoming new CD, 'Excisions of Exorcisms.' At our headlining show in Philly we played an extended set, to include even more new songs, such as 'Hellish World,' 'Venomous Habitations,' and 'Bloodwashed.' It was great for the band to get back out on the road, and seeing our fans (old and new) was awesome!! We got a great response, sold almost completely out of merchandise, handed out dozens of copies of Deathgasm Recs Promo/Comp CD’s featuring Track #1 our new song “Evil in Disguise” and got a killer buzz going for our new CD, 'Excisions of Exorcisms!!'
"DIABOLIC would like to give special thanks to the bands: LECHEROUS NOCTURNE, for opening the show for us every night, even letting us borrow their guitar and bass cabs to help the shows run more smoothly (thanks bros!) and to SKELETONWITCH for being so cool and supportive, and especially to CANNIBAL CORPSE, for inviting us to play these Tour Dates!! Thank you to Evan from Deathgasm Records for hooking us up with killer merchandise, to Marco Barbieri and Salem Rose Music, for helping us to make it happen! Thanks to the promoters, Chris in Philly for hooking us up at the last minute! Also special thanks to Jarrod Pritchard for running live sound for us every night! Thanks to Nick Storch at ICM Talent, and to CANNIBAL’s Tour Manager, Pete Robertson, for helping us get onboard and up to speed!! A huge mega-thanks to Aly Webster for the cool live pics!! And thanks to Alex, Pat, Paul, George, and Rob for just being killer dudes and delivering a crushing set every night!! We thank you very much for the opportunity, and we’ll see you again next time!!
