Dark Forest was forged in the Black Country, England by guitarist Christian Horton. With the release of its self-made EPs in 2007, the band quickly went from strength to strength, gigging across Europe and the UK and releasing their self titled debut album in 2009, then "Dawn of Infinity" in 2011.
In 2012 Dark Forest recruited vocalist Josh Winnard as its new frontman and shortly afterwards also gained guitarist Pat Jenkins. With this new line up, the band immediately began writing fresh material and entered the recording studio in June 2013 to produce its third album "The Awakening," which is set for release on March 11th via Cruz Del Sur music.

The album has been slated for North American release on March 11 via Cruz Del Sur Music. The three-part studio footage videos on the recording process of "The Awakening" can be accessed over here. Below is the cover artwork for the release.
Dark Forest was forged in the Black Country, England by guitarist Christian Horton. After the release of their self-made EPs in 2007, the band went on to release its self titled debut album in 2009 and then "Dawn of Infinity" in 2011. In 2012 Dark Forest recruited vocalist Josh Winnard as its new front man and shortly afterwards also gained guitarist Pat Jenkins. With this new line-up, the band immediately began writing fresh material and entered the recording studio in June 2013 to produce their third album "The Awakening."
The album is recorded in 444hz instead of the standardized 440hz tuning. The decision was based by studying the lost "Solfeggio Frequencies", original sound frequencies which were apparently used in Ancient Gregorian Chants and were believed to impart "spiritual blessings when sung in harmony" and also by studying the nefarious origins of 440hz. Tuning to 444hz corresponds to a "C" of 528hz on the Solfeggio Frequency Scale, the exact frequency used by genetic biochemists to repair broken DNA. This frequency is also believed to encourage "Transformation and Miracles."
Not by coincidence, "The Awakening" opens with the ending lines of Percy Bysshe Shelley's poem " The Mask of Anarchy" and ends with the anthem "Sons of England". The awakening must be both spiritual and intellectual and through the rediscovery of our roots and a connection to nature, must lead all humanity to remember the truth - that we are infinite consciousness and we are one. This is the realization that will defeat the global control system of the elite and set humanity free.
U.K. act Dark Forest has issued the following announcement about upcoming activity and recruiting a new guitarist:
"Over the last couple of months things may have seemed quiet in the Dark Forest camp but under the surface there has been a lot going on! Firstly, we have been busily engaged in the writing and rehearsing of a new album which will be released some point later this year.
"Secondly, it is our painful duty to announce that James Lees has left the band. He decided to call it a day, saying that he feels his time in the band has run its course and he wants to explore and concentrate on other areas in his life. We respect his decision and would like to thank Jim for his huge contribution in making Dark Forest what it is and for all the fun we’ve had over the last ten years!
"Thirdly, we have been extremely fortunate in finding a new guitarist who is, we all agree, the only person who could possibly have replaced Jim.
"So it is our delight to announce that Patrick Jenkins is officially on board with us as second lead guitarist. Pat has been our friend for many years and has supported the band since the early days. His guitar skills have blown us away, his sense of melody and song writing are completely akin to Dark Forest and as Jim mentioned, he has been playing guitar with Christian in their folk project Grene Knyght for a number of years so he was always the perfect choice to fill Jims shoes. Cruz del Sur Music signed Dark Forest in June of this year as the band entered the studio to record "Dawn Of Infinity," after watching the young Birmingham, England-based outfit evolve over the last few years.
The label commented on the album, "Bearing a strong appreciation for the forefathers of the genre, and producing the full-blooded sound of a distinctly English brand of heavy metal, the new album fulfills the expectations placed on one of the most interesting bands in the UK’s contemporary traditional metal scene, infusing British folklore and Celtic inspiration into their craft." Cruz del Sur Music has issued the following announcement about signing a deal with U.K. act Dark Forest (not to be confused with the Canadian band of the same name):
"Cruz del Sur Music welcomes Dark Forest to the label's ever-expanding roster, having just inked a recent deal for the band's upcoming album.
"A young band based out of Birmingham, England, Dark Forest has been knocking skulls around for a few years now, after the release of their self titled debut album on Eyes Like Snow Records in January 2009. Their traditional take on heavy metal is as British-sounding as some of the best NWOBHM bands, reinterpreted with a modern production’s punch able to make them stand out alone. If your heart has a soft spot for Iron Maiden, Angel Witch, Isen Torr or early Deep Purple, Dark Forest boasts the kind of fist-pumping old-school classic metal to make your day.
"Dark Forest entered the studio on Saturday, June 18th, and began the process of recording their second full-length, Dawn of Infinity, which will be released by Cruz Del Sur Music in the fall of 2011. More news will follow during the Summer months..."
