Formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1995, Slipknot was a nine-member alternative metal band whose members adopted numerals as performing aliases; the stabilized lineup, in order from 0 to 8, included DJ Sid Wilson, drummer Joey Jordison, bassist Paul Grey, percussionist Chris Fehn, guitarist James Root, sampler/programmer Craig Jones, percussionist Shawn Crahan, guitarist Mic Thompson, and vocalist Corey Taylor.

In 1996, the group self-released an album titled Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. and attracted the attention of several labels, including Roadrunner, which signed the band the following year. Slipknot's eponymous official debut was released in 1999.

Slipknot has been a wide attraction on Ozzfest. Many people want to see what makes this band tick. With nine members, halloween masks, and metal they certainly are an attraction.

“The Punisher” Featuring Danzig & Hatebreed Tracks

Today saw the release of “The Punisher: One Last Kill” on Disney+. The hyperviolent new entry in the Marvel cinematic universe brings Jon Bernthal back as Frank Castle/The Punisher, continuing the character’s storyline across his prior streaming series and MCU cameo appearances.

Spoilers ahead regarding the film’s soundtrack: the feature includes several notable metal needle drops. The opening scene is set to Danzig’s 1988 classic “Mother,” while a later, particularly brutal fight sequence features Hatebreed’s “I Will Be Heard,” the lead single from their 2002 major-label debut “Perseverance.”

Although not part of official MCU canon, the 2008 film “Punisher: War Zone” famously featured a metal-heavy soundtrack including Slayer, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, and Hatebreed’s cover of Sepultura’s “Refuse / Resist,” making this new usage a fitting nod to the franchise’s history of heavy music.

Just For Fun

Slipknot To Retire Masks

In 1999, Des Moines nine piece band Slipknot released their eponymous debut album. Since then, the group has sold over thirty million albums and become one of metal's most popular bands. However, with members being involved in other notable projects such as Stone Sour and numerous pictures of them online, Slipknot has confirmed that they will be retiring their masks immediately, claiming that continuing to wear them would be "redundant." A statement reads as follows:

"In the quarter of a century since we began conquering the world, we have reached heights we never dreamed we could. Millions of albums and millions more fans around the world later, we've made the decision to change our appearance one last time. With each album, we've redesigned our masks, which comes at great expense, both financially and in terms of time. Given the rise in costs for almost everything in the modern world and our commitment to bringing Maggots the greatest show possible, in addition to the redundancy of disguising ourselves when everyone knows what we look like, we feel it's time to bury the masks for good.

"We know this is a big step, but we also feel the music is more important than the masks ever were and we aim to prove it with a brand new album, 'Stripped Backlash,' which will be released this Summer. Naturally, we'll be hitting stages across the globe to celebrate the album, our freedom and of course, twenty five years of glory. Keep your ears open because the record's first single, 'And On The 9th Day' will be unleashed very soon and we couldn't be more excited for you to hear it."

Slipknot formed in 1995 and eventually signed with Roadrunner Records, with whom they've stuck with throughout their recording career. "Stripped Backlash" will be their eighth studio album and first since 2022's, "The End, So Far."
