Mortiis To Offer New Album As Free Download

Mortiis is set to release the new album "Perfectly Defect" as a free download on October 10th, 2010. "Putting ‘Perfectly Defect’ out as a free download was a decision we made after some consideration," said the band’s namesake Mortiis. "The new model of the music business is important to keep in mind; there's a new mentality out there in terms of how people acquire their music now. For better or worse, music seems to have become a medium a lot of people aren't prepared to pay for in the old fashioned way. So, we paid to record it out of our own pockets 'cos we thought it would be a really cool gift to our fans that have been waiting around for ages for something new to come out."

Mortiis has spent much of the past frew years writing and recording “The Great Deceiver,” the long-awaited follow-up to 2004’s full-length “The Grudge” and the 2007 remix album, “Some Kind of Heroin.” "Perfectly Defect" is the prelude to the “The Great Deceiver” – while the latter is heavier and darker, the former is varied, experimental, and largely instrumental.

"When we were writing and working on ‘The Great Deceiver’, we were coming up with all sorts of inspired stuff, a really varied collection of music," Mortiis explained. "Some of it was far too varied and experimental to be included in such an angry, dark album as ‘The Great Deceiver’ so we created a brand new album that is the introductory element to the more intricate world of ‘The Great Deceiver.’ More...

We obviously plan on coming back to Holland/Belgium and as many other countries as possible during 2010.”

Mortiis Announces New Album "The Great Deceiver"

Norwegian industrial band Mortiis has issued the following statement about an upcoming studio album:

"Forget what you think you know about Mortiis. Dismiss any image that immediately comes to mind when you think of both the band and its multitalented leader. Let go of any impression you may have. Start over with a clean slate. That is exactly what Mortiis has done.

"Mortiis’s The Great Deceiver is not the result of a rebirth, an evolution, or a metamorphosis. This great new album does not mark a new chapter in the band’s growing musical legacy. It is much more. The Great Deceiver is Mortiis’s greatest and most comprehensive effort to date. More...

Hear Tracks From Mortiis' "Some Kind Of Heroin"

Mortiis has made a selection of advance tracks from the upcoming remix album 'Some Kind of Heroin' available via the band's dedicated Myspace page.

The album, which features tracks from 'The Grudge' reconstructed by a number of artists including The Kovenant, PIG, Funker Vogt, In The Nursery, Girls Under Glass and more, will see a European release on April 16.

Commenting on the remixed material, Mortiis described the thought process behind 'Some Kind of Heroin':

"I had remixed several of these artists for their releases earlier so it was really only a matter of bringing out the baseball bat and start yelling "payback time!" - others I would contact direct and work out deals with them. This album mostly came together through mutual contacts, sending out emails or calling up and asking if they wanted to be part of it. Bands like Girls Under Glass and Gothminister I had met and am friends with, so we knew that would work out great."

The streaming advance tracks provide a sense of the diversity the album offers, and give fans a chance to check out other artists take on the Mortiis sound long before the album goes on sale.
Mortiis is on tour with Deathstars around Europe in April.

Mortiis To Release Remix Album

Industrial Goth enigma Mortiis is set to release a remix album titled 'Some Kind of Heroin', reworking material from 'The Grudge', on April 17 in Europe, via Earache Records.

Over a series of progressively more ambitious albums, Mortiis has morphed into a band unit that has become known for aggressive live shows and ambitious records, and has spawned two Top 50 UK singles.

In keeping with the rapidly developing nature of the music and the direction of the band, 'Some Kind of Heroin' offers diverse remix material including interpretations by a wide range of contemporaries, such as Zombie Girl, Gothminister, Implant, XP8, Mental Siege, PIG, The Kovenant, Velvet Acid Christ, Girls Under Glass, David Wallace, Kubrick, Funker Vogt, Flesh Field, Dope Stars and In the Nursery.

Mortiis states: "I´m really stoked we finally got to do a remix album and since it's been in process for quite some time now I'm happy to be able to finally release it. I've always been fascinated with taking songs and twisting them into something different, the ability to grab the elements you like and put them into a totally different environment. The flexibility of that really appeals to me.

I think the mixes all those guys did came out really cool, many of them vastly different from what would have come out of the studio if I had done them. It's cool to see what happens when you let other people inside your head, so to speak. I think the variety of mixers and sonic realms created here will appeal to a large variety of people."

Track listing for 'Some Kind of Heroin' is as follows:

01. Underdog (Zombie Girl Remix)
02. The Grudge (Gothminister mix)
03. Twist The Knife (The Gibbering mix by Implant)
04. Broken Skin feat. Stephan Groth (Septic Wound mix by XP8)
05. The Grudge (Mental Siege Mix)
06. Gibber (PIG Remix)
07. Way too Wicked (Rape, Dope and the American Way mix by The Kovenant)
08. Gibber (Lysergic Club Mix by Velvet Acid Christ)
09. The Worst in Me (Girls Under Glass Mix)
10. The Grudge (David Wallace Remix)
11. Broken Skin feat. Stephan Groth (Funker Vogt Remix)
12. The Grudge (Emotional Heresy by Kubrick)
13. Decadent & Desperate (Therafuck remix by Dope Stars)
14. Gibber (Gibbering Idiot)
15. Way too Wicked (Absinthium mix)

Mortiis Issues Update On New Material

Mortiis has been busy writing and recording new material for a new album, to be released 2007.

"The music so far is pretty varied," said frontman and band namesake Mortiis. "There´s a bunch of really heavy stuff in there, probably the hardest stuff we´ve done so far, really guitar driven shit. Then there´s some really ambient sounding stuff, very drone-y and atmospheric, as well as some more electronic sounding songs too."

Mortiis notes that the songs are still in various stages of completion, leaving them open to many shifts and changes before the follow-up to "The Grudge" is recorded.

"It sounds really interesting right now," Mortiis said. "Some old vibes came back to us on some of the songs, some ´Smell of Rain´ vibes and some ´Grudge´ vibes and some new vibes. It´s all totally dysfunctional and fucked up in one way or another. Diseased or hurt minds never really heal up, I guess, and because of that, all in all it?s going to be a really hard, attacking kind of album with the moody stuff in between."

Some of the working titles are: "Zeitgeist," "Great Deceiver," "The Ugly Truth," "Looking Glass," "Doppelganger," "Sins of Mine," "Scolding the Burnt," "Live Forever," and "Road to Ruin."

Mortiis also recently completed remixes for Zombie Girl and Dope Stars´ upcoming releases.
