Latest Halford News
Below is our complete Halford news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
It's a yearly tradition for metal bands, sometimes of the very extreme death/black variety, to pull out a few tongue-in-cheek Christmas covers around this time.
While most are just jokes or aren't pulled off with much effort, there have been a handful of legitimately awesome heavy metal Christmas albums released, and we're going to show you the ones worth hearing.
If you've got a significant other or family member who insists on Christmas music this time of year, these are the albums you want to pull out to really give them a shock!
Death Metal Christmas - "Hellish Renditions Of Christmas Classics"
Back in 2013, Hate Eternal bass maverick J.J. Hrubovcak released a twistedly unholy rendition of some of the seasons darkest hymns. The EP as a whole is a bit hit or miss, but that death metal rendition of "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" is absolutely killer. For all the hype this got at the time, it's a shame there's never been a follow-up release.
August Burns Red - "Sleddin' Hill"
While I'm not a huge August Burns Red fan personally, this Christmas album is absolutely phenomenal, and filled to the brim with metallic recreations of classic holiday tunes along with some originals. It's also instrumental, which is a plus, as the instrumentation here is top-notch and the band puts a heavy spin on these songs to a much better degree than many heavy metal Christmas albums that came before.
A month back we idly asked why more video game developers aren't using heavy metal soundtracks, since gunning down enemies, conquering rival armies, and slicing apart demonic hordes seem like they should all be tailor fit to shredding guitars and harsh vocals.
We've been bombarded with suggestions from readers since then about games with solid metal or metal inspired soundtracks, and we'll be sharing those every few weeks – but don't stop letting us know about your favorites! Be sure to give us some suggestions below or over at Facebook.
The heavy metal gaming madness continues today, and this week we're going entirely retro, ranging from Super NES and Genesis to the PS1/N64/Dreamcast era, but advancing no further into the ever-increasing hardware specs of consoles.
If you missed our previous examinations of video games with heavy metal soundtracks be sure to check 'em out here:
Part 1: Brutal Legend, Saints Row III, Killing Floor 2, Pain Killer, and Guilty Gear X2 Reload
Part 2: Splatterhouse, Twisted Metal 2, The Witcher's bonus music disc, and Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost And The Damned.
Without further ado, here's our tribute to all things metal in retro gaming history:
Rock and Roll Racing
This forgotten gem originally came out on SNES and Genesis, but was then later ported to the Game Boy Advance in 2003. For you folks who use emulators like ZSNES, this one is readily available on any given ROM site.
Featuring compressed, digitized versions (minus the vocals) of hard rock and metal songs in that distinctive Super NES quality, the soundtrack included songs like “Paranoid” by Black Sabbath and “Bad To The Bone” by George Thorogood. Like the classic Zombies Ate My Neighbors, in true old school style Rock And Roll Racing spat out a passcode to remember for returning to specific levels with all your car upgrades saved.
I have to wonder if some of the themes and imagery from these cars and tracks ended up as inspiration for the pinnacle of heavy metal video games – Brutal Legend – which featured its share of vehicle mayhem with heavy metal backing. A sequel to Rock And Roll Racing actually showed up for the Playstation a few years later titled Red Asphalt (named after those driver's ed videos meant to scare kids straight) with much updated sound quality. Seems like we're overdue for another one though – so game developers, get on it!
There are easily hundreds of heavy videos that fit the Halloween mood, but the Christmas holiday doesn’t get nearly as much love from the metal world. But never fear, metal doesn’t disappoint, and there are a few bands that have gone the extra mile and released videos to help get you through the uncomfortable family gatherings, drunk quarreling siblings, and even the off-key caroling. So whether you’re a die-hard celebrant who can’t sleep all night until Christmas morning or a scrooge with a “bah humbug!” on your lips, check out these video clips to keep your holiday fully metal.
Twisted Sister – “O Come All Ye Faithful”
Twisted Sister is notorious for awesomely cheesy videos with ridiculous opening segments, and covering a Christmas classic certainly wasn’t going to change that. Enjoy it for the amazingly goofy guy happily spreading Twisted Sister cheer, the rocking rendition of an old holiday standby, or even just enjoy it for the dancing MILF!

According to Wendy Dio, the wife and manager of heavy metal legend Ronnie James Dio, who sadly passed away last year, some of the biggest names in heavy metal and hard rock will be taking part in a forthcoming Dio tribute album.
"It probably won't come out this year, but everybody signed up," Dio told Noisecreep.
So, who's signed on thus far? "Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Glenn Hughes, Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Lemmy (Motorhead)," she said, adding Grohl will do the Black Sabbath hit 'Mob Rules,' and Halford will be taking on 'Long Live Rock 'N' Roll.' And artists keep coming on. "I just talked to Alice (Cooper), roped Alice in and Sebastian (Bach) and Chris (Jericho)," she said, referring to fellow attendees at the Golden Gods press conference. And Cooper already has a song in mind, going back to the Elf days, according to Wendy.

Warbringer is set to kick off a three date trek supporting Halford, which serves as Halford’s follow up to his recent tour with Ozzy Osbourne. Warbringer's John Laux had the following to say:
"Seasons Slayings and Greetings everyone! It's been quite a turbulent sleigh ride since we released Waking Into Nightmares last year. We are very excited to wrap up the year with 3 killer Halford gigs in Southern California! Judas Priest has long been a staple of our late night tour van mp3 selection, so we are very excited and honored to share the stage with the the Metal God and Painkiller himself!
"These shows will also mark the end of 2 years of touring in support of the album. We had a great time visiting many countries and meeting a lot of great fans and bands. Some highlights include 3 great European/UK tours including Testament and co-headline runs with our friends in Evile and Skeletonwitch; an unforgettable time with Municipal Waste and Toxic Holocaust in Japan followed by a killer headlining tour in Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and The Philippines; and naturally lots of trips through the States and Canada kicking off right after the album was released with Soilwork, Darkane, Exodus, Kreator, Obituary, Megadeth, and some the heaviest and meanest this year with Overkill, Vader, Pestilence and finally supporting Nevermore; one tour we will never forget! Thanks to everyone! Cheers and Humbugs."
The dates are as follows:
12/17 Wiltern Theatre - Los Angeles, CA
12/18 4th & B - San Diego, CA
12/19 The Grove - Anaheim, CA
Rob Halford, vocalist of heavy metal legends Judas Priest, commented on the forthcoming retirement of Judas Priest after nearly 40 years. Halford commented by saying:
"Well, they do say that all good things come to an end and that's probably the case in this case. But I'm delighted that, of course, the Halford [solo project] band is gonna be storming forward in the metal future, and that's gotta be good news.
"I've been doing this now for close to 40 years and it's a real thrill to think that I'm part of the roots of it all. Not just myself — many, many other people have been responsible for putting the whole heavy metal scene onto the map. It's as strong now as it's ever been."
A video clip has been posted online of Halford performing live at Scotiabank Place, Ottawa on November 25th, 2010. The performance footage is available below.
Halford has posted the music video for their song "Like There's No Tomorrow," which comes off their latest album "Made of Metal." Watch the video below:
Rob Halford, the lead vocalist of heavy metal icons Judas Priest as well as his own band, Halford, was asked about the recent attention given to homosexual teenagers taking their own lives as a result of homophobic bullying. In the interview with About.com, Halford said:
"I think more than anything, it's a picture of the way life is. You have all this sexting going on, and cyber bullying going on. It's absolutely heartbreaking when people are driven to the point where they are taking their own lives. I'm pleased that talented people like Ellen Degeneres and Neil Patrick Harris are speaking out. They are far more articulate than I am.
"The most imporant thing is to show the love and support that is out there for everybody, whether you're being bullied or not. It's important to look after each other and to nurture each other, especially in your school years. I saw bullying when I was a kid growing up in school. It has always been there. It's a very peculiar thing. It's a shame that it takes horrible tragedies like this to bring the spotlight back on. It has to stay there now. It can't just fizzle out in a couple weeks, like things tend to do in the media.
"Programs need to be installed in schools, or reinforced. Parents need to keep an eye on their kids a little bit more. The social interaction that's available 24 hours a day has to be utilized in a strong, educating, promotional way to let people who are going through those periods of their lives know that there's always somebody you can talk to. Don't feel alone. There's a way we can help each other get through these types of difficulties."

Halford has been shown as a stylish person in the form of the way he takes care of his metal appearance. There is a need to be very distinctive when representing an image of a Metal God to the audience as he wants his personal feelings about the line of apparel to become imbedded within it. The singer’s clothing line shows a need to be different in the form of displaying different imagery of crosses and other things that vary from his own normal attire.
The naming of the clothing is pretty excellent with things like “Sad Wings” that should be familiar to his fans. There will be a whole line of clothing from the normal t-shirts to pants and shoes as well. Furthermore, the creation of his line of clothing goes along nicely with the starting of his own Metal God Records label this year.
A brand new trailer for the forthcoming video game Brutal Legend has been posted online. You can check it out below.
