Season of Mist is proud to announce the signing of Montreal progressive death metal masters Beyond Creation, which was previously covered in the technical death metal edition of our "Unearthing the Underground" column.
Founded in 2005, Beyond Creation self-released a debut technical death metal masterpiece, "The Aura," in 2011 which will be reissued with an exclusive bonus track by Season of Mist on April 12th in Europe and May 14th in North America.
Commented guitarist Simon Girard, "We are very proud to be part of the excellent Season of Mist family! SoM have clearly established themselves as one of the master labels of the metal genre. We've been listening to awesome bands from their roster for many years, so it's a very pleasant surprise to have this opportunity. The hard work we've always put in will continue at a new level through our collaboration with SoM and we can't wait to see where it will all propel us from here!"
Beyond Creation's line-up is rounded out by guitarist/vocalist Kevin Chartré (guitar/vocals), drummer Philippe Boucher and Augury bassist Dominic "Forest" Lapointe. More...
After completing a co-headlining North American tour with speed punks Municipal Waste, extreme act Napalm Death will now be coming back to the States with Cannibal Corpse and Immolation for the 2013 installment of the Decibel Magazine tour (Cretin, Beyond Creation, and Magrudergrind will also join the tour as rotating support). Vocalist Mark "Barney" Greenway comments about this upcoming trek:
"Twice in the USA in the space of a year? Must pinch ourselves a little harder. It's like 22 years ago all over again. Well, the Municipal Waste trip was a very beautiful thing, and we found things to be very vibrant and people rolled out in force. So Albert from Decibel asked us back in an excited voice, and we said 'Oh, go on then' in an excited voice, and thus we'll be seeing you sooner rather than later. It'll be fast, it'll be furious - guaranteed."
After the maiden voyage in 2012, Decibel Magazine is doubling down on veteran star power for a second annual national tour.
This spring, the plague spreads as Decibel brings you three living legends of death metal and grindcore: the preeminent gore institution Cannibal Corpse; rabble-rousing U.K. grind icons Napalm Death, and NYDM stalwarts Immolation. The following press release was issued about the tour:
"While occultism permeated last spring's inaugural dB tour—featuring exclusively European headliners in Behemoth, Watain, the Devil's Blood and In Solitude—they looked (mostly) to North America for this year's unholy assemblage. Three of Decibel's favorite underground powerhouses will take on this year's rotating opening slot: demented Bay Area death-grinders Cretin, Canadian tech-prog upstarts Beyond Creation and Beltway grind/powerviolence crushers Magrudergrind. And the time is ripe to see the new bleed into the old: three of the six artists performing are expected to have new records detonating during the tour.
"Kicking off in May, this year's Decibel Magazine Tour gauntlet will last a full week longer than its 2012 counterpart, spanning over 30 North American dates. Presented by Metal Blade, Indiemerchstore.com, Nuclear Blast, Lace Pickups, Century Media and Season of Mist, the 2013 Decibel Magazine Tour will bring together the kind of globally-renowned, boundary-pushing innovators that have made it possible for the magazine to continue thriving for over 100 issues. Coming off a tour noted for Behemoth frontman Nergal's triumphant return to the States following his battle with leukemia—which culiminated in an explosive sold-out closing gig in New York City—Decibel had no choice but to go bigger and even more badass." Montreal's rising-star progressive death metal wizards Beyond Creation have just released the new official music video for their song "Omnipresent Perception." The track comes off debut album "The Aura" and the clip is available below. Beyond Creation was also covered in the technical death metal edition of our "Unearthing the Metal Underground" column earlier this year.
"This video was created in collaboration with Obnoxious Entertainment, a brand-new production company from Montreal," comments BC singer/guitarist Simon Girard. "'Omnipresent Perception' contains a simple and direct message: we are free to trust in whatever we want, but we should first trust in ourselves, and make sure we do it the right way! We are very happy with the end result of this video and we hope people will have as much watching it as we did making it."
That familiar old school and brutal sound is the foundation on which much of extreme metal is based, but death metal has come a long way since its origins, and plenty of bands have taken it closer the extremes of human ability.
Technical death metal pushes the boundaries of the style, making the music faster, more intricate, and sometimes absurdly complex. Tech-death also generally puts the bass more up toward the front than in either the brutal or melodic varieties, which often leads to some crossover into “progressive” territory and adds a grounding in melody for a point of reference in the storm of metal.
While acts like Obscura and The Faceless get plenty of press and are fairly well known in the metal world, this week we’re going to unearth three lesser-known acts that should be in your technical death metal rotation.
This newly formed Icelandic group is getting ready to release a debut album later on during the summer, dropping an apocalyptic death metal bomb filled with blistering solos and plenty of brutality. The tracks that have been released so far will definitely appeal to fans of Necrophagist or similar acts. Check out tech-death insanity below by listening to the title track off the new album “Solvet Saeclum” or the earlier demo track “Zone of Alienation.”
