Vancouver's Ninjaspy released lastest album "Spüken" last week, which was again produced by GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mudvayne, Gallows) and Ben Kaplan (Biffy Clyro, Atreyu, Haste the Day).
In celebration of its relesae, a full stream premiere of the album has come online and can be heard below. Vocalist / guitarist Joel Parent comments:
"'Spüken' is the musical equivalent of a magician removing his own entrails. The guts just keep coming, like handkerchiefs from a sleeve, and its painful, colourful and cathartic all at once, in the same way that vomiting after hours of nausea is such a relief. The musical ideas that came together in this project span many years and come from many influences. Hearing them all together is a trip.
"There were a lot of hard times in the years while this record was being written and most, if not all of these songs are tied together by the search for something greater than oneself. Empowerment by going through ones pain, all this is woven into an album that is another spastic stylistic roller coaster not unlike our previous albums, but with smoother blending.
"From song to song there is a lot of variance, but within songs we have managed to take contrasting genres and combine them in more nuanced ways, with less hard cuts. This album is colourful, and the palette is dark." More...

Years in the making since the spring 2014 release of "Jump Ya Bones," the band was able to raise $15,000 to fund this new album. Recording began in November of 2014, narrowing down years worth of songs to an epic 10 track experience demonstrating downbeats to breakdowns and a weaving of reggae, hardcore, and metal.
Vocalist / guitarist Joel Parent comments: "These 10 songs span a decade, so there are a lot of different feels happening from song to song that represent what we got into over the years. It's like we spent 10 years swallowing everything life threw at us, then we threw it all back up again, and are now able to listen to the blended, half-digested version of it." More...

The Armstrong Metal Fest will be taking place on July 20th and 21st, with full details available over at the festival's official website. The organizers of the event have now issued the following statement:
"On July 20th-21st, the beautiful Okanagan will play host to the largest metal festival in Western Canada. Over the past few years. metal fans from even the farthest depths of North America have dragged themselves out of their dingy bars, wiped the stale beer from their mouths and joined together in a two day long journey filled with beer, boobs and heavy metal. In the past, Armstrong Metalfest has welcomed bands such as Three Inches of Blood into our small community, and this year will be joined by bands such as Thor, Into Eternity, Nylithia and Ninjaspy. Our list of notable bands will only increase as the years go on.
"In only a few years, Armstrong Metalfest has grown from a locally known one day event, to two days of unforgettable music and events. Beginning as Armstrong Open Air, AMF was founded in the parents' driveway of a dedicate metalhead. The first year featured locally known bands, who performed on a hastily built stage in front of a barn. Over a hundred people battled the rain and moshed on the gravel driveway, creating a soup of blood, rain and dirt that surely must have seeped into the towns water supply. The first event was such a success that there was an immediate cry for more. Soon word spread over British Columbia and filtered into the surrounding provinces and the United States.
"By the third year Armstrong Metalfest had evolved into a two day festival and moved onto festival grounds at the Hassen Arena, in the heart of Armstrong. Our new location was met with a public outcry, as local churches rallied against us. Accused of encouraging crime, Satanism and rape, churches held town meetings demanding that we be expelled from the city. Our website and promotional videos were attacked, as church goers expressed worries that their children would be beaten up, raped and sodomized if they were to attend. More...
