Southern Lord Records is offering a free compilation download to promote its "Power of the Riff 2011" tour, which starts on August 13. The 20-track mix tape is a tool to promote the bands on the upcoming East Coast tour.
Some of these artists include All Pigs Must Die, Baptists, Eyehategod, Pentagram, Black Cobra, Pelican, Noothgrush, Winter, Trap Them, etc. The download also comes with flyers from the upcoming tour.

Chicago's Pelican has announced a string of west coast engagements this summer, ending a period of dormancy that has seen the band receding from stages to work on new material and a growing number of side-projects. Joining metal label Southern Lord’s multi-city "The Power of The Riff Festival," Pelican will play installments in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle in addition to headlining dates in San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Fresno, and Portland.

Pelican has announced plans to play two very special shows in celebration of their 10-year anniversary box set, out October 19th on Berlin, Germany’s Viva Hate Records. The elegantly packaged wooden-box set will be limited to a run of 500 copies and will encompass material from their four full-length releases and three EPs.
Pelican will play Chicago’s Bottom Lounge on October 23rd joined by longtime friends and occasional collaborators The Life & Times.
Munster, IN’s Three Floyds Brewery will celebrate the event by unveiling a special, Pelican-dedicated doppelbock (one of the few styles of beer all four band members regularly agree upon). The as-yet-unnamed ale will be served at the Chicago show and at select watering holes and specialty shops around the Chicagoland area for a limited time.
One week after the Chicago appearance, Pelican will join forces with Goatsnake (making a rarer than rare live appearance) on October 30th to play the Troubador in Los Angeles.

Pelican will be playing at Chicago's annual Do Division Street Fest this June. The event takes place on Saturday & Sunday, June 5th & 6th, on Division Street in Downtown Chicago. The outdoor festival will showcase Pelican playing at dusk on Saturday, June 5th. They'll share the stage with Headlights, CoCoComas, Maritime, headliners The Hood Internet and more, as their stage is hosted by comedian Neil Hamburger. The band will play another hometown show again the following night at The Empty Bottle, headlining over local acts Medusa and Miracle Condition, featuring members of celebrated cult Chicago band US Maple. Pelican's song "The Creeper," the second track on the band's most recent release "What We All Come To Need," will also appear in the season finale of CSI: Miami, on CBS this Monday, May 31st. In related news, Southern Lord recently slashed prices at their online store, with most CDs now $10 and double CDs and package deals reduced as well.
PELICAN’s Southern Lord Recordings debut full-length "What We All Come To Need" - originally released in October - will be issued in double-LP format on February 23rd. The deluxe vinyl version bears a heavyweight gatefold jacket, and the fourth side of the release contains three bonus tracks not available on the CD version.
In celebration of the vinyl release of the album PELICAN will play a hometown show in Chicago on March 12th alongside Pinebender and Follows (ex-Russian Circles). This record release show will also be the sole location to purchase PELICAN’s Ephemeral Bean Blend; the band’s own limited edition collaboration with Intelligentsia Coffee of Chicago. The band states: “The richest, most complex flavors take patience and skill to craft and are over far too quickly. In that spirit we are proud to present this blend of coffee beans, who have known artisan care from their moment of inception at the farms at which they were grown to the roastery where their delicate nuances were honed to perfection by the skilled craftsmen at Intelligentsia. PELICAN will also take part in the recently-announced Scion Rock Fest in Columbus, Ohio on March 13th. The free event features more than 20 bands including Shrinebuilder, Yob, Absu, D.R.I., Cannibal Corpse, Voivod, Trap Them and more.
The band recently released a music video for "Final Breath," the band's first song ever to feature vocals.
Pelican has released their latest video for "Final Breath" online. The song is off the band's latest album, "What We All Come To Need," which was released in late 2009. Check out the video below.
Pelican has announced that their song "Drought" (from the "Australasia" album) is featured in the new Woody Harrelson movie "The Messenger."
In other band news, Pelican is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Rock A Rolla magazine. The issue also contains a interview with Greg Anderson in regards to the upcoming Goatsnake show at Roadburn in 2010.

In anticipation of the release of their fourth full length album, "What We All Come To Need," PELICAN will celebrate with an in-store performance at Reckless Records in Chicago followed by an album listening party on October 16th at 11:30 pm at Kuma's Corner, a renowned restaurant/bar responsible for dozens of burgers named for fellow members of the Metal pantheon. Here they'll unleash the "Pelican Burger"; a ten ounce Kobe Beef patty, with pan seared scallops and lardons, in a garlic white wine sauce on top of a parmesan crisp, and served with white wine-garlic Aioli.
PELICAN has also announced several more in-store appearances along the way when they hit the road this month. The US tour kicks off on October 18th, alongside label mates BLACK COBRA. See the full tour routing below.
Pre-orders for the new album will begin online this Tuesday, October 13th at the Southern Lord website as well as on Pelican’s own webstore. Exclusive content will be available from both to celebrate this release, including a special mailorder-only double disc version.

A full American Fall PELICAN tour has been announced. The tour begins just days before the release of the band's upcoming Southern Lord Records debut, "What We All Come To Need," which comes out on October 27th. A variety of bands will be joining PELICAN on the tour including labelmates BLACK COBRA for most of the dates.
PELICAN will also join EARTH, SUNN O))) and EAGLE TWIN for the Southern Lord showcase in the Blackened Music Series at Brooklyn's Masonic Temple later this month.

PELICAN are currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on their fourth studio album, entitled "What We All Come To Need." Guitarist Laurent Lebec has commented on the new album saying it is “the most perfect synthesis of everything we've done to date, sonically.” The album features more guests than have ever appeared on a PELICAN album before including: Greg Anderson of sunn O))), Aaron Turner of Isis, Ben Verellen of Harkonen and Helms Alee and Allen Epley from The Life & Times and Shiner. In related band news, the "Champions Of Sound 2008" 2x7inch vinyl is available in the Hydra Head Webshop. In addition to Pelican's unreleased track, "Winds With Limbs," there are also tracks from Kayo Dot, Zozobra and Stove Bredsky.
SUNN O))) has unveiled more US tour dates in support of their latest opus, "Monoliths & Dimensions."
Following their previously announced Midwestern US tour beginning next week, the band will devastate the West Coast this August. The tour kicks off in Seattle where SUNN O))) will headline two Southern Lord label showcase events. The first night will be as a duo performing the the Shoshin/GrimmRobe Demos in its entirety. They will be joined by labelmates The Accüsed (this show serving as a record release show for the Accüsed album "The Curse of Martha Splatterhead"). An encore Seattle performance follows the next night, this time alongside Southern Lord brethren Earth, Pelican and Eagle Twin. SUNN O))) then surges south along the coast through California and into Utah and Colorado alongside labelmates Eagle Twin and The Accüsed.

Pelican recently posted a new song to their MySpace player from their upcoming new EP, "Ephemeral." The song is called "Embedding the Moss." Their new "Ephemeral" EP is available on CD from the band on tour and on LP/mp3 from Southern Lord on June 4th.
Southern Lord Recording artists Pelican will be hitting the road in support of their new EP “Ephemeral” during the months of May and June. The “Ephemeral” EP features brand new Pelican recordings and will be released exclusively on vinyl by Southern Lord during the first week of June. The band will have “tour only” CD copies of “Ephemeral” for sale at the shows.
Pelican will be direct support to Isis for these dates with opening support from Tombs. Pelican will be playing songs from the new EP as well as debuting new material that will be recorded for a forthcoming full length on Southern Lord.

Pelican has rescheduled their Chicago show that was cancelled due to snow. The Empty Bottle rescheduled the show for Friday, April 24th. All previously purchased tickets will be honored and Tombs will be driving down from New York just to make the rescheduled date.
"We made it back to Chicago, a little worse for wear, at 1am," commented the band. "We are now safe and sound- thank you everyone for your concern. Sorry folks and thank you for your understanding."
Pelican has issued the following update regarding their cancellation of tonight's show in Chicago:
"It is with a heavy heart that we have to cancel tonight's show in Chicago. We are currently stranded in Nebraska at the mercy of the insane April snow storm that is devastating this portion of the country. Yesterday we travelled from Denver for 10 hours through whiteout conditions only to make it 270 miles - when we woke up this morning the highway was closed. As of right now it's tough to tell when we'll even make it home. We we be rescheduling the show as soon as possible and all prepaid tickets will be honored. We'll keep you posted."
Following their tour down to SXSW and up the West Coast, Pelican will be performing a one-off show at Three Floyds Brewery in Munster, IN (an hour outside of Chicago) for their annual Dark Lord Day - the one day of the year that beer connoisseurs can buy Three Floyd's oak aged imperial stout Dark Lord.
