Century Media Celebrates 20th Anniversary

2008 has become an extremely exciting year in the history of Century Media Records, one of the world's most respected independent homes for heavy music, as the label is celebrating its 20th anniversary!

The company's Anniversary year started off with an extremely successful, first-ever yard sale/party at the Century Media office in Dortmund (Germany) in June, where several hundred guests partied out on exclusive live shows by Angel Dust and Turisas. A video with impressions from the event can be seen at this location. A photo gallery for this event can be viewed here.

To further celebrate this anniversary Century Media Records will release the very special 2CD compilation "Covering 20 Years Of Extremes" on September 15th in Europe and on October 14th in North America. The various artists covers-release includes 32 mostly exclusive recordings and will be available in stores for the price of one CD. Sticking to the "keep it in the family" slogan, CM approached their artists about covering songs from other acts within the label's repertoire and the response from the musicians was overwhelming.

Some choices were obvious and homages to the bands that influenced them, others were inspired picks. This combination ended up leading to a heavily entertaining and truly special final result across all sub-genres of heavy music.

Napalm Death Enters The Studio

Legendary Brummie godfathers of grindcore Napalm Death have entered the studio to record the follow up album to 2006's "Smear Campaign."

Vocalist Mark “Barney” Greenway says: “As always, when trying to decide when we should enter the studio, we threw a dart at a dartboard and, sadly, for all our sanities’ sakes, it landed on a date which was sooner rather than later. It’s all working out good with about 10-12 songs complete thus far. It will be intense, naturally, and like always we’ll be looking to move things along a notch production-wise and stylistically. Conceptually, it will, generally speaking, be a tale of analyzing life and stripping it back to the point where I’m asking the question: why are we killing ourselves to get ahead and not appreciating the real simplistic, beautiful things around us? If that sounds hippy-ish, I don’t care, ha ha.” More...

Warbringer Issues European Tour Update

Warbringer has just finished their European tour with Napalm Death and Suffocation and issued the following update:

"Just finished off the Napalm Death/Suffocation European tour a couple days ago. Long story short, it fucking slaughtered. First time for us touring overseas, and our first time touring in a bus. Had a big ol red nightliner bus with bunks and all that, which is way luxurious compared to the van touring we are accustomed to. It fit like 20 people, Napalm, Suffo, us, and crew. Everyone in both bands were awesome fellas, there wasn't really any problems with any anybody on the tour. The European fans and people at the venues were way friendly, and that coupled with the fact that we were traveling the world, going to all these different countries made it one of the coolest things any of us have done, ever. Some highlights of the tour were Frank "the tank" Mullen yelling at people to jump off bridges all day at Rock Hard festival, the brotherhood of spoon tattoos, Ryan's (possibly) fictional tapeworm that made him eat like 20 sandwiches a day, the raging fucking maniacs who went berserk in places like Portugal and Poland, and any day we were in the Netherlands/the few days after with Terrence, Joe, AK, etc. Anyhow, tomorrow we start up a couple more firsts- our first headlining tour and our first shows in the UK, with Gama Bomb supporting. We'll see you all out there, cheers!"

Enemy Soil's "Casualties Of Progress" EP Reissue

Northern Virginia's ENEMY SOIL will see the reissue of their "Casualties Of Progress" EP later this month via Relapse. This reissue of "Casualties Of Progress," which was previously released on vinyl only, has been remastered and features the original artwork with the addition of liner notes from ENEMY SOIL's Richard Johnson and AGOROPHOBIC NOSEBLEED's Jay Randall. The reissue also features rare bonus tracks including three previously unreleased ENEMY SOIL tracks as well as a cover of NAPALM DEATH's "Unchallenged Hate."

ENEMY SOIL's Johnson recently commented on the reissue: "Working on the reissue of the Casualties Of Progress 7" with Relapse brings back fond memories of all the support they put behind Enemy Soil in the 90s. And here it is finally back in print, on CD for the first time, with bonus tracks to boot. Even the original artwork graces the sleeve." "When I first heard the recording again after Scott Hull was finished with his remaster, I was taken aback at how youthful and primitive it sounded." Johnson adds; "Casualties of Progress is one of the records that Enemy Soil is most identified with, and I'm bloody chuffed that Enemy Soil fans that missed out on it the first time around, or want to hear it again in this new form, have a chance to do so, over a decade after the original release."

The Casualties Of Progress reissue will see a May 27th North American (June 2nd international) release date. Further information on this release, including pre-order options, can be found via the release page.
