Rotting Christ And Inquisition Burn Down London

There have been a number of tours this year that have delighted fans of a specific sub-genre of metal in Europe. Destruction took to the road with fellow old school thrashers Flotsam and Jetsam, bringing with them younger fast bands, Enforcer and Nervosa, while we've also seen some dream pairings such as Exodus and Obituary on their "Battle of the bays" tour and the recently covered Amon Amarth and Testament trek. On this night however, it was the turn of devoted black metal fans to be treated when the "Bloodshed Rituals" tour rolled into London, featuring co-headlining slots from Inquisition and Rotting Christ.

Though unfortunately missing out on opening act, Schammasch due to conducting an interview with Rotting Christ frontman, Sakis Tolis, I was able to see the second band, Mystifier, a black metal group from Brazil who themselves are longtime veterans of the genre. Founded by the charismatic guitarist Beelzeebubth in 1989, the band have not released any new material in fifteen years but have clearly created a legacy for themselves given the reception they received when taking to the stage and those in the audience wearing their shirts. The trio put on a solid performance, no doubt winning over those in the crowd who were not familiar with them during a slot which clearly meant much to them. More...

Inquisition Posts Entire Album Online

Inquisition is currently streaming all of crushing new album, "Bloodshed Across The Empyrean Altar Beyond The Celestial Zenith." The new album is available to be heard below.

Regarding the album, Dagon comments: "Bloodshed Across the Empyrean Altar Beyond the Celestial Zenith' represents a multi layered theme beginning with the universe as an infinite space of war between the cosmic gods of our creation, transcending into the spirit of our inner space which is an extension of the gods, and the connection between our species, our spirit, and the absolute universe as a whole as a result from the interstellar warfare. Inspired by the forces before creation, its mechanics and the ancient question/reason as to what placed us here as the most recent ruling species in such an instantaneous window of time."

The album will be released worldwide on August 26th and the full track listing is as follows:

1. Intro: The Force Before Darkness
2. From Chaos They Came
3. Wings of Anu

Inquisition Streaming New Song

Inquisition has premiered a third crushing new track off the absurdly titled "Bloodshed Across The Empyrean Altar Beyond The Celestial Zenith."

The new song, featuring equally obnoxious title "Vortex From The Celestial Flying Throne Of Storms," is now streaming below. Regarding the new track, guitarist/vocalist Dagon (which is really too short a name, if you ask me) comments:

"In the universe where order within disorder mirror the struggle of two astral gods, serpent versus eagle as they battle upon their thrones for the supremacy of quantum mechanic laws, a vortex left behind their war thrones sets motion to death portals within our stellar black ocean generating a cosmic whirlpool of infinite movement and renewal at every level consuming all matter and light." Inquisition Posts New Song Online

Inquisition just premiered another crushing new track off upcoming album, "Bloodshed Across The Empyrean Altar Beyond The Celestial Zenith." The new song, titled "Power From the Center of the Cosmic Black Spiral," is available below.

Regarding the new track, guitarist/vocalist Dagon comments: "'Power From The Center Of The Cosmic Black Spiral' - this is Inquisition in its mid paced, heavy and hypnotic form; classic Inquisition. Here we have tight neck breaking riffs and percussive rhythms while mixed with an open and wide atmospheric segment that comes later in the song opening an entire new dimension; this contrasting works with the song's theme of: death and destruction from chaos, perfection and creation from order all from within the center of the galactic battlefield where the gods of creation and the mechanics of the universe are one, working as destroyer and creator enabling cosmic evolution. In short, this is tribute to the center of galaxies and their law as an all consuming force, a great Satan."

The new album will be released by Season of Mist worldwide on August 26th, and the full track listing is as follows:

1. Intro: The Force Before Darkness
2. From Chaos They Came
3. Wings of Anu
4. Vortex From the Celestial Flying Throne of Storms
5. A Black Aeon Shall Cleanse
6. The Flames of Infinite Blackness Before Creation
7. Mystical Blood
8. Through the Divine Spirit of Satan a Glorious Universe is Known

Inquisition Recording New Album

Black metal powerhouse Inquisition has begun recording a new album to be released in 2016 that follows 2013's "Obscure Verses for the Multiverse." The band is recording at the London Bridge Studios in Seattle with long time engineer Arthur Rizk. Regarding the session, Inquisition guitarist/vocalist Dagon comments:

"We are currently in London Bridge Studios here in Seattle recording our upcoming full length. We chose this studio for its rare, vintage console and the world renowned drum room they have. When talking about the console, we are talking about the rare opportunity to track on the infamous Neve 8048. This Neve in particular was made in 1972, and is a vintage board with pre-amps that translate sound into something unmatched; you can use all the plugins you want and still never fully replicate it through emulation. Maybe emulation these days comes close, but can't match a real class vintage board like this. There will be an enormous difference the listeners will be able to appreciate after the album has settled.

"Inquisition took advantage of this opportunity and is applying it so our fans and supporters can hear the experience of something truly organic by some of the highest standards when it comes to natural environments. Inquisition is a live band, we are remembered for our live sound and we want an album that brings that essence and those dynamics into the album; from the songs to the production in every aspect. Also, we never forget we are a black metal band, to us this means keeping things realistic and this means to never over produce and artificially over polish anything. This is where 'vintage' keeps those things in check." More...

Inquisition Reveals Re-Issue Artwork

Season Of Mist continues its string of Inquisition re-issues as today the band unveils new artwork for the upcoming re-release of 2011 album "Ominous Doctrines of the Perpetual Mystical Macrocosm."

The new version has been scheduled for release on the 18th of May 2015 (North America in January 2016). All Inquisition re-issues come with new artwork by Paolo Girardi. The renowned artist already created the cover art for the U.S. duo's latest album "Obscure Verses For The Multiverse" (2013). Girardi's covers are part of an overarching concept and should be seen in conjunction.

Inquisition's infernal concept goes back to an idea of Season of Mist CEO Michael Berberian and is based on medieval altar painting "The Last Judgement," which is attributed to German artist Hans Memling from the 15th century. Paolo Girardi echoes its composition of a central painting flanked by two outer wings and their backsides in the five cover artworks of the reissues. Yet instead of the celestial Day of Judgement, the Italian adapts the original motif to the black metal context. He depicts a scene from the pits of Hell. The souls are now being weighed by the Angel of Death instead of St. Michael the Archangel, and none are being led by St. Peter to the Gates of Paradise, but those not rising to worship the Devil are convicted to flame and torture.
