Black metal powerhouse Inquisition has begun recording a new album to be released in 2016 that follows 2013's "Obscure Verses for the Multiverse." The band is recording at the London Bridge Studios in Seattle with long time engineer Arthur Rizk. Regarding the session, Inquisition guitarist/vocalist Dagon comments:
"We are currently in London Bridge Studios here in Seattle recording our upcoming full length. We chose this studio for its rare, vintage console and the world renowned drum room they have. When talking about the console, we are talking about the rare opportunity to track on the infamous Neve 8048. This Neve in particular was made in 1972, and is a vintage board with pre-amps that translate sound into something unmatched; you can use all the plugins you want and still never fully replicate it through emulation. Maybe emulation these days comes close, but can't match a real class vintage board like this. There will be an enormous difference the listeners will be able to appreciate after the album has settled.
"Inquisition took advantage of this opportunity and is applying it so our fans and supporters can hear the experience of something truly organic by some of the highest standards when it comes to natural environments. Inquisition is a live band, we are remembered for our live sound and we want an album that brings that essence and those dynamics into the album; from the songs to the production in every aspect. Also, we never forget we are a black metal band, to us this means keeping things realistic and this means to never over produce and artificially over polish anything. This is where 'vintage' keeps those things in check." More...

Season Of Mist continues its string of Inquisition re-issues as today the band unveils new artwork for the upcoming re-release of 2011 album "Ominous Doctrines of the Perpetual Mystical Macrocosm."
The new version has been scheduled for release on the 18th of May 2015 (North America in January 2016). All Inquisition re-issues come with new artwork by Paolo Girardi. The renowned artist already created the cover art for the U.S. duo's latest album "Obscure Verses For The Multiverse" (2013). Girardi's covers are part of an overarching concept and should be seen in conjunction.
Inquisition's infernal concept goes back to an idea of Season of Mist CEO Michael Berberian and is based on medieval altar painting "The Last Judgement," which is attributed to German artist Hans Memling from the 15th century. Paolo Girardi echoes its composition of a central painting flanked by two outer wings and their backsides in the five cover artworks of the reissues. Yet instead of the celestial Day of Judgement, the Italian adapts the original motif to the black metal context. He depicts a scene from the pits of Hell. The souls are now being weighed by the Angel of Death instead of St. Michael the Archangel, and none are being led by St. Peter to the Gates of Paradise, but those not rising to worship the Devil are convicted to flame and torture. Inquisition also previously announced a headlining European tour. The tour sees support from Archgoat, Ondskapt, and Blackdeath. The tour kicks off on January 20 in Germany, and continues through 11 different countries.
Regarding the tour, founding member Dagon comments: "The time has come to close the black circle, and journey together as one shadow by gathering what we feel is a line-up of cults that we know will offer the atmosphere we seek to bring to you. We are honored to have assembled and bring to all followers this occasion to witness live in the flesh, in support of the Inquisition headlining tour 2015.
"As direct support we have chosen the beast of Archgoat right out of Finland for their long dedication to Black Metal and the art of occult music in general; simply one of our favorite bands and a classic act. Equally proud to have with us will be the obscure Swedish cult Ondskapt casting their potent dose of highly lethal poisons, and, the unique darkened souls of Blackdeath from Russia evoking abstract rites of dark frequencies whom we are very proud to have joining us. From beginning to end throughout the evening, we would like to offer an occasion of ritual to the ancient ones and initiation to the newly arrived. Raise the chalice!” More...

Come And Take It Productions started Texas Independence Fest in Austin as a way to bring together friends and family in a celebration of Texas. Previous years featured performances by Down, David Allan Coe, Upon a Burning Body, Dixie Witch and many more. This year's festival saw a mix of local and touring acts. Wayne Static of Static-X and We Are The Riot (members of Coal Chamber) brought familiarity to the day's acts, while The Metal Alliance Tour featuring Behemoth, 1349, Inquisition, Goatwhore and Black Crown Initiate painted the afternoon sky black.
The doors to Emo's opened at noon and I arrived around a quarter to 2 in time to catch Denton, Texas melodic death/black outfit Tarim. According to a Come And Take It personnel, Tarim won Come And Take It's battle of the bands, which landed them on this spot. Ten hours is a lot of music to take in. This was my time to coordinate interviews times, but the band, playing material from "The Philosopher King," caught my ears and kept them. They definitely deserved to be on Emo's big stage, and would have proved a tighter fit to the evening's black out.
I missed Casket of Cassandra but caught the following band, Headcrusher. Former residents of Colombia , these deathly thrashers have become a staple in Austin's metal scene. The five-piece band often plays Come And Take It Production shows commonly held at the Dirty Dog Bar. Although this was the first time I caught their act on Emo's stage, it wasn't the band's largest crowd. Festival crowds brought in several times more people than the couple hundred watching the band's mid-day performance. It doesn't matter how many people watch this group; Headcrusher played hard and aggressive. Fans of Gothenburg-style metal such as Dimension Zero, Dark Tranquility and Carnal Forge take note of Headcrusher. More...

Looks like February will be bedazzled by a rather black sun when occult outfit In Solitude will embark on a 19-date European trek supporting Cradle of Filth on the band's co-headlining tour with Behemoth. Support on this tour also comes from Inquisition and Svarttjern.
In Solitude from Uppsala, Sweden is out now with third effort "Sister." Currently In Solitude is touring North America supporting Watain.
Behemoth meanwhile will release new album "The Satanist" in 2014. Frontman Nergal comments: “We are immensely proud to start promotion of 'The Satanist' on the release date of the album in such a noble company. It's been a while since we toured Europe for the last time… The wolf pack grew stronger and hungrier and with new opus and stage production we have so much more to offer. This European crusade will be the catalyst of 2 years long tour so keep your eyes open!”
Vocalist Dani Filth of Cradle of Filth also comments: “We are very much looking forward to touring with Behemoth et al, as I think the combined line-up for these momentous shows is definitely very killer. Prepare for some riotous shows immersed in such esteemed dark company, as Cradle traverses an Old Skool tour programme set against a viscerally visual backdrop of nocturnal metal supremacy. In other words, be there or be squared. Pinhead-style!” More...
