Brutal Assault Adds A Corucopia Of Doom
Let yourself be consumed by darkness as the masters of crushing melancholy and epic storytelling take the stage at Brutal Assault: genre legends Paradise Lost, monumental Cult of Luna, Icelandic skalds Skálmöld, the somber heroin jazz of BOHREN & DER CLUB OF GORE/ official the epic conjurers of darkness Crypt Sermon, stoner titans Monolord, Aaron of My Dying Bride with his new doom project High Parasite, and the retro-futuristic progressive hard rock of Hällas.
Brutal Assault will take place in the Czech Republic at the Josefov Fortress during August 6-9, 2025.

Mystic Festival (PL) Adds 16 New Bands To Line-Up
Insomnium, Terrorizer, Textures, Vltimas, Villagers of Ioannina City, Gutalax, Skálmöld, Gaupa, Evil Invaders, Party Cannon, Dödsrit, Witching, Dvne, Massive Wagons, Ditz and ten56. have announced their visit to Gdansk. You’ve got 16 more reasons to come to Mystic Festival in June of 2024.
How do you like your death metal? Melancholic and melodic as offered by Finland's Insomnium, or brutal and relentless - the cult Terrorizer returns to the stage, with David Vincent and Pete Sandoval in the lineup! Significantly, one of the most important voices of death metal will be heard at two shows in Gdansk - David will also headline Vltimas, the supergroup he formed with Blasphemer (ex-Mayhem) and Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy).
"Sex, Drugs and Fecal Gore" - the title of this song captures well the sound and character of the Gutalax performances, so here come the Czech heroes of shitty grind. The Brits from Party Cannon, with their crushing slam death metal, also know how to get the party going. The opposite pole of musical experiences will be handled by the Greeks from Villagers of Ioannina City, known for their progressive approach to stoner rock, and the Swedes from Gaupa, playing psychedelic hard rock.
Textures, masters of heavy weight prog-metal, will have a lot to offer to those who value technique and excellent sound, as well as Evil Invaders, moving freely in the territory between thrash and heavy metal. Dvne is also progressive metal in a sense but heavily influenced by post-metal monumentalism.
Skálmöld will bring Viking battle songs from Iceland, Dödsrit will batter their audience with d-beat-driven black metal, and the wounded will be slaughtered by Americans from Witching, who balance black metal aggression with doom solemnity. Massive Wagons invite you to a shameless, loud rock'n'roll party, Ditz also play rock, but with a lot of ambition and a solid dash of hardcore. Closing out today's stakes are ten56., who will come from Paris to unleash mayhem with their mixture of deathcore and nu-metal.
Mystic Festival will take place in Gdansk, Poland at the Gdansk Shipyard on June 5th through 8th, 2024.
Tickets are available now on the Mystic Festival homepage here More...
Skálmöld Releases "Ýdalir" Title Track
Just in time for the release of their highly anticipated upcoming album, "Ýdalir," Viking metal icons Skálmöld unleash their infectious title track, "Ýdalir," together with a gripping official performance video. Through a collection of awe-inspiring songs, guided by the threads of fate spun by Urður, Verðandi, and Skuld, experience a captivating narrative that blurs the boundaries of reality and myth on the band’s upcoming full-length album, "Ýdalir," out this Friday, August 18, 2023 via Napalm Records. Skálmöld Unveils "Verðandi" Lyric Video
Viking metal icons Skálmöld have revealed their epically catchy second single, "Verðandi," together with an official music video. With their first record in five years, the Icelandic six-piece will unveil their highly anticipated sixth studio album, "Ýdalir," on August 18, 2023 via Napalm Records.
Dominated by a chant-like rhythm, "Verðandi" represents an unforgettable track, with catchy guitar and oboe-driven details. While the first half of the track is driven by the heaviest of folk and death metal elements, strong vibrations of growls subside with the sound of the ocean and fragile organ melodies.
Fans can look forward to the band’s brand new material and energetic live shows this summer - including their return to huge European metal festivals like Wacken and Summer Breeze!
Björgvin Sigurðsson on "Verðandi":
"The second song we present to you from our upcoming album is ‘Verðandi’. Parts of the story of Ullur presented on the album are told through the eyes of the Norns - Urður, Verðandi and Skuld. Past, present and future. The Norns live at the foot of Yggdrasill where they spin the threads of fate of all men. The three Norns all get their own song on the album and here we enter the realm of the present with Verðandi.
"In two ways this song has a really classic feel to it. Firstly it is heavily inspired by the more classic styles of Metal and has a very old-school vibe. Secondly it can be seen as a classic Skálmöld song, driven forward by a really catchy and folk inspired melody, yet still heavy and epic." More...
Skalmold Uploads New Live Video
Viking Metal giants Skálmöld will release their second live album and their first as a solo band, 10 Year Anniversary - Live In Reykjavík, on its new release date of October 16, 2020 via Napalm Records.
Today, the six-piece reveals the third video taken off the new live album:
"Árás" leads all the way back to Skálmöld's origins in January 2010, when they recorded their first demo on music cassette, which included only two songs. Ten years later, the Icelanders are on stage at the three days in a row completely sold out Gamla Bíó in their hometown of Reykjavík, celebrating their jubilee with their most dedicated fans.
Menacing vocals, fast riffs and protruding drums underline the impressive evolvement the band took since their first demo - clearly audible and viewable on their new live album, 10 Year Anniversary - Live In Reykjavík.
Skálmöld on "Árás":
"The third track we present to you from our upcoming live album is 'Árás'. This song has always been special to us. It is from our debut album and was one of the very first songs we ever wrote. It has been an integral part of our setlist throughout the years. And in a live environment is where it is at its best, with its slow build-up and big choir parts. It is safe to say that this one is very dear to us. We love it and hope you do as well.

Skálmöld Premiere Pre-Release Full-Album Stream

Skálmöld premiere the pre-release full-album stream of the band's impending new album "Sorgir", which will be out in stores October 12 on Napalm Records.
Check out now "Sorgir" in its entirety below.
Skálmold Reveals New Album Details
Icelandic Viking metal band SKÁLMÖLD will release their fifth full length album this fall, entitled "Sorgir." The album title (which translates to "sorrows") is appropriate for this concept album that is divided in two parts: The first four songs tell four short stories about tragedies and death. It is called Sagnir (tales). The second chapter called Svipir (ghosts) thickens the plot by telling the same four stories from a different perspective.
The tracklisting is as follows:
1. Ljósið
2. Sverðið
3. Brúnin
4. Barnið
5. Skotta
6. Gangári
7. Móri
8. Mara
"Sorgir" is available in the following formats:
1 CD Digipak + Bonus Track
2 LP Gatefold in different colors
You can pre-order the album here.
From August 22nd til August 25th SKÁLMÖLD will play four special shows together with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra in their hometown of Reykjavik. Three shows are already completely sold out.
Skalmold Releases "Höndin Sem Veggina Klórar" Clip
Iceland's Skalmold issued a video clip for the new single "Höndin Sem Veggina Klórar," which you can check out in the player below. The song is part of a split single with Finland's Omnium Gatherum (which released its half, which can be heard over here).
Bibbi commented on the track: "To me this song sounds a little bit different, and I like that fact very much. Don't get me wrong, it is clearly a Skálmöld song, but somehow it's just ... fresh? Yeah, for a lack of a better word, let's go with fresh. I am also very happy about the lyrics, and the concept. The title translates to 'The Hand That Scratches The Walls' and is written from a standpoint of a man who is caught with his family inside their burning farmhouse.
"It might sound as a total cliché but I truly feel this is one of our best songs to date. And we totally need it since the Omnium Gatherum song on the flip side could easily make us look very bad in comparison. What a killer band they are!"
The 7" split single will be available on November 24th via Napalm Records, which features the following track list:
Side A: Skálmöld - Höndin Sem Veggina Klórar
Side B: Omnium Gatherum - Blade Reflections

Skalmold Issues Year-End Update
After we premiered an awesome new lyric video from Skalmold, the Icelandic band has now checked in with the following year-end update:
"Today we celebrate that the days are finally getting longer. In Iceland this is a huge thing since the darkest days are very dark, now we have maybe 4 hours of daylight and 20 hours of pitch black, ice cold darkness. For some people this is a very hard period, many of us battle depression and other personal issues and the gloom is a powerful enemy to fight.
"We are now heading into the holidays. For most of us it is just great but for some it is not so. The hardest thing to do when you feel bad is forcing yourself to appear happy and sadly that is the reality for far to many. This is also the most stressful time of the year, we are all running around shopping and planning the days to come. Those are all fun things to do but we must not lose sight of what really matter; our friends and family and their happiness.
"So please, just for a moment, look up from your smartphone, turn off the tv and radio, stop thinking about what type of hairdryer to get your mom for Christmas, just stop all these things and look at the people around you. Your people. Are they all happy and ok? Take some time to hug them and tell them how you really feel about them. The right set of words at the right time can work magic.
"So. Have a wonderful last days of the year wherever in the world you might be. 2015 has been the best and we look forward seeing you again in 2016. Don’t you ever doubt that this world is a beautiful place and do remember that life is awesome. Gleðilega hátíð!" More...
