Krisiun Talk About Upcoming DVD Release

Brazil’s KRISIUN have crafted not just a new album, AssassiNation, but a full-length DVD entitled Live Armageddon, as well, both slated for a Feb. 21st North American release. The band’s first DVD, Live Armageddon documents their decimating stage performance.

“It was the best concert footage we ever filmed,” says guitarist Moyses Kolesne about the recordings from Poland’s 2004 Metalmania, the first 45 minutes of the DVD. “The crew was really professional. When they filmed our performance, the stage was set up with only our backline, so the stage looked great. The set we recorded we’d aggressively been playing on the European tour with Morbid Angel, so the songs were really tight, and the crowd gave us a great response. We weren’t able to have a sound check before we played, but we still had no wimpy overdubs on the final product. It’s just us blasting through a really strong set.”

Live Armageddon also includes 12 songs filmed at a live show in KRISIUN’s hometown, Sao Paolo. It also contains three bootlegged songs from KRISIUN’s 2001 Wacken-Open-Air Festival appearance.

Moyses continues explaining why the band chose to use this footage, “A German friend of ours, Alex, shot this footage. It’s a little raw, but what you see is that we are having a great time, and that the crowd is just going nuts. There is this huge moshpit, and the sound is really strong.”

Wrapping up the DVD is footage from the Works Of Carnage recording sessions and the “Murderer” video clip.

KRISIUN will be touring North America with Morbid Angel and Behemoth on “The Monsters Of Chaos Tour.” You can get the complete concert listings here.

Krisiun Complete Work On 'AssassiNation'

Right after wrapping up their last European headlining tour, Brazilian death metal outfit KRISIUN completed work on their new album, "AssassiNation", tentatively due late February via Century Media Records. After recording two albums in their native country, the trio went back to Stage One Studios in Bühne, Germany to work with Andy Classen — the same winning team responsible for 2000's "Conquerors Of Armageddon".

Commented KRISIUN drummer Max Kolesne: "'AssassiNation' is the heaviest album we have ever done. I can assure you that it was a top quality recording at Stage One Studios, this album captures all the fury and brutality of the band's live performances and it's also a great combination of heaviness and precision that we never had on our albums before. The album will be out in the beginning of 2006, and we're definitely gonna make a relentless round of live shows in Europe, so I see you all extreme metal maniacs on the road! Get ready for the 'AssassiNation'!"

Hate Eternal Live Report

On Sunday, June 26th I attended the Hate Eternal show at BB King's in New York City. Along with Hate Eternal, openers were Jungle Rot, Into Eternity, Incantation, All Shall Perish, and Krisiun.

Jungle Rot opened and was exceptional from the first few songs I heard due to my prior engagement with Eric Rutan and the interview I had done with him. After Jungle Rot was All Shall Perish, I only knew that because I heard it from across the hall. I was in the bar wrapping up my interview. From what I heard as I walked in during their last few songs, they were pretty decent. Then, Into Eternity came on, I was expecting more from them seeing as my friend that came with me had me all hyped up about them, what I got was completely different.

Into Eternity’s set was more singing and melodic, which is ok, when you’re at a power metal show or some other type of show, not a death metal concert. Into Eternity’s musicianship was unique and they have good solos, but one starts to wonder after the first 3 songs if they can do anything else with the guitar besides the same solos. Into Eternity’s vocalist and drummer on the other hand were very good, the front man, Stu, put on an incredible falsetto, very energetic, and worked the crowd very well. Into Eternity’s drummer seemed to be the only one, along with the bassist, and Stu, holding the band together. Overall, they could have been better playing some of their harder material. Incantation was next, an exceptional death metal trio.

Incantation, at my first glance made me wonder where their fourth member was as the sound was overwhelming for just three people. Also, Incantation’s musicianship was incredible with the guitar solos and reminded me very much of Vader and Nile. Overall, I believe they were one of the best acts on the bill that night. Following Incantation was Krisiun. Having previously seen them at a local metal fest, I knew what to expect, or so I thought.

Krisiun came on and blew me away with their intense energy from start to finish. I was very much pleased, to say the least, that Krisiun improved their performance by showing 100% more energy than they had at the metal fest! When they came on, it was like the whole show had gotten an enormous wake up call and everyone jumped to life. Krisiun blew everyone away and left people begging for more! I would strongly recommend seeing them if they are in an area near you!

Last, but certainly not least, Hate Eternal came on! Having done the previous interview with Eric Rutan, I was expecting an amazing show and anxious to hear this “new sound” he had been talking about. Though, I did not get to hear it first, I was pleasantly surprised to say the least when they started with a lot of their older songs from their prior two albums. I was even more excited when they played my favorite Hate Eternal song, “King of All Kings”, but that wasn’t the highlight. In fact, the highlight didn’t come until 2-3 songs later when they started with some new songs of the new album, “I, Monarch”. Once I heard the new songs, I thought, “Wow, so THAT’S what the ranting and raving’s been about!” Hate Eternal have created what seems to be a brand new speed of metal, and new extreme in which to play metal. I do not believe ANY band could top their speed and quality! ESPECIALLY their live show, the end was my favorite because as soon as they started to play the last song, there was a MASS bum rush to the stage and everyone who wanted to, came up on stage and got to be up there with Hate Eternal for their last song! I give this band and this show a 10 for all bands being really cool, regardless of what critics might say or think and Hate Eternal for being EXTREMELY nice to their fans and yelling at guards that were taking kids off the stage!

Into Eternity Preparing To Play Mexico

Canadian progressive death metal band Into Eternity are preparing to return to the road after their spring North American tour with Amorphis. Lead guitarist / second vocalist Tim Roth addressed the bands recent illnesses, and recent activities: "It’s been a few weeks since we wrapped up our headlining Canadian dates, and everyone is back to good health now. Stu and Adam are back in their respective cities and it’s been a good break before we start our next tour and play Mexico’s Monterrey Metal Fest Vol. II on May 28th."

"We’re really excited to be a part of the Hate Eternal tour, and are planning to stick to our heavier material. Between Krisiun and Hate Eternal, the level of musicianship will be overwhelming, and it’s going to be killer to watch those bands every night. During the break, Rob and I have been working on new songs at his home studio. The material has been flowing and there will be some killer songs coming. They contain our trademark sounds, no worries. On May 20th, the rest of the guys return to Regina for rehearsals. We want to be as tight as we can for the upcoming tours. Hopefully we will see everyone on the road throughout Canada and the USA! Keep it metal!"

Still receiving rave reviews for their album "Buried In Oblivion", Into Eternity will be touring North America throughout the summer and fall, following up the Hate Eternal / Krisiun tour with a month-long tour supporting Finland’s Stratovarius.

Into Eternity Resume Canadian Tour After Sickness

Canadian progressive death metal band INTO ETERNITY resume their Canadian tour today in Winnipeg. Although members of the band are still ailing from prolonged bouts with strep throat and pneumonia, they have vowed to bring their intense live show to dedicated audiences.

INTO ETERNITY was forced to cancel several of their late March appearances supporting Amorphis after guitarist Rob Doherty sought emergency medical treatment in Atlanta. Diagnosed with pneumonia and advised to enter the hospital, the band immediately returned to Canada where Doherty, vocalist Stu Block, and guitarist/vocalist Tim Roth (who played shows with fevers topping 104° F) were all treated for pneumonia. Brazilian purveyors of death Krisiun are teaming up with Florida's Hate Eternal and Into Eternity, Incantation, and All Shall Perish to ravage the U.S. this summer.

Drummer Max Kolesne offered his horns up to everyone:

It's great to be coming back to the U.S., especially touring with our brothers in Hate Eternal and Incantation. This tour is going to devastate! Posers will die and their women will cry when the death metal demons rise.

Krisiun will be supporting their new release "Bloodshed," which contains eight new tracks highlighting the kings of hyperspeed's diversity and musical development. The album also includes four rudimentary corpse-grinding tracks from their rare, cult, underground first release, the Unmerciful Order EP (1993).

Behemoth Enter Polish Album Chart At #15

Behemoth's new CD, "Demigod," has entered the Polish album chart at position No. 15. The Polish black metallers' latest effort left behind such artists as R.E.M. and Robbie Williams, according to a posting on the group's website.

"Demigod" — scheduled for release in the U.S. in early 2005 — was mixed by Behemoth frontman Nergal and producer Daniel Bergstrand (Meshuggah, In Flames) at Dug-Out studios in Uppsala, Sweden. Mastering duties were handled at the Cutting Room studios in Stockholm. A guest appearance by Nile's Karl Sanders is included in the track "Xul".

Behemoth kicked off a European tour Krisiun, Incantation and Ragnarok on Thursday (Oct. 21) in Tilburg, the Netherlands. Nergal commented: "I have to say, that I'm more than happy that we finally hit the road. It's been awhile since we toured Europe last time but what is happening at the shows goes far beyond our expectations. Great turnouts, new album is selling like hell, the band seems to be in its best shape. Tilburg was very good as for the first date of the tour, but Groningen (Holland) and Vosselaar (Belgium) were just AMAZING! I am speechless...never thought that there would be so many Behemoth freaks in the crowd! Thanx for showing up! Brothers in Biebob, sorry for the short set. I promise we will be back with a longer one! You are the reason for me to go on. Behemoth loves you."

Krisiun To Release European Mini CD

Krisiun, have been a trademark for musical violence and a steady nominee for the title of the globe's fastest Death Metal act throughout their twelve years of existence. Still, it is high time to reconsider your preconceived notions about the band. "Bloodshed" (recorded 100% analog) may not be a full new studio-album, but it's no less than 8 brand-new tracks (incl. 3 intros/outros) that show a different side of the band. It also includes four re-mastered tracks of their rare "Unmerciful Order" MCD, which was originally released in 1993 and today is being hailed as a cult underground release. "Bloodshed" grinds -- but not solely in the sense of sonic assaults crafted out of insane speed. Without losing any of their intensity, Krisiun went for some mid-paced songs that will surely surprise anybody who thought the band wouldn't be capable combining raw brutality with an ultimate technical edge and pounding groove riffs. Those who are worried about one of the last advocates of the extreme selling-out can be relieved: Unholy compositions like "Slain Fate," "Ominous" and "Visions Beyond" are underlined by the raw fury of the early tracks from "Unmerciful Order": Tracks eight through eleven bear witness that Krisiun have been and will always be a guarantee for ultra-violence. The 7-minute outro "MMIV" shows another side of the band with its spooky, almost 80's horror-film feel. Just make sure not to hit the repeat-button too early on this track. Despite a total playing-time of 40 minutes, "Bloodshed" will be available for the fan-friendly price of a mid-priced CD. About the time "Bloodshed" is released, Krisiun will go out for another round of the relentless live shows for which they are so famous. They will embark on the European "Clash Of Demigods" tour with co-headliners Behemoth and with support from Incantation and Ragnarok. Be warned that blood will be shed...
