Ancient VVisdom recently unleashed the "Sacrificial" long player via Magic Bullet Records (read our review here).
"Sacrificial" was produced by founding vocalist Nathan Opposition, engineered by Travis Bonner at The Diamond Factory Studios in Austin, and mastered by Paul Logus (Anthrax, Clutch, Hellyeah, Shadows Fall et al) at Taloowa Mastering.
Today Vice's music portal Noisey brings forth the band's official new video for "The Devil's Work," a cryptic and shadowy clip that fittingly centers itself on a Satanic ritual, as well as an in-depth interview with Opposition by Cleveland's foremost practitioner of modern Satanism, Eric Freeman. "Sacrificial" is the latest full-length from occult death rock conjurors, Ancient VVisdom (read our review here).
Released last week via the Magic Bullet Records compound, "Sacrificial" was produced by founding vocalist Nathan Opposition, engineered by Travis Bonner at The Diamond Factory Studios in Austin, and mastered by Paul Logus (Anthrax, Clutch, Hellyeah, Shadows Fall et al) at Taloowa Mastering.
In celebration of its release, Revolver is currently hosting an in-depth, track-by-track breakdown of the record as told by Opposition. In speaking of "Sacrifice," Opposition elaborates, "Smooth soothing bass and drums lead the way with a Danzig-like intensity. The guitars drop in with vocals and the ceremony has begun. I call upon the bearer of light to come forth from the abyss and the power of the left hand path. There, in the mind of every human being, is the enlightening of all the ages, the ultimate sacrifice."
Ancient VVisdom is today offering the "City Of Stone" track for streaming, which can be heard below thanks to Cvlt Nation.
Elaborates founding vocalist Nathan Opposition, "I'm a huge fan of classic metal, Dio, Judas Priest, Merciful Fate, so for this song I wanted to pay tribute to that sound Ancient VVisdom style. It has that pace that is easy to bang your head to and a ripping guitar lead during the bridge.
"The lyrics were inspired by a trip I took with Dwid Hellion [Integrity] to Toward Castle in Scotland, I believe. We were looking for the castle because it linked back to his family lineage. When we discovered the castle ruins it was breath taking. I felt the presence of the ancient grounds we were walking on. It inspired me to write this song. Places like that have power and hold energy, I believe. Do not fear mortality."
Released on CD and digitally via Magic Bullet Records last Tuesday with the wax version set to drop Tuesday, October 28th, Ancient VVisdom's "Sacrificial" album was produced by Opposition, engineered by Travis Bonner at The Diamond Factory Studios in Austin, and mastered by Paul Logus (Anthrax, Clutch, Hellyeah, Shadows Fall et al) at Taloowa Mastering. Cleveland, Ohio's occult death rock conjurors Ancient VVisdom will release third full-length, entitled "Sacrificial," on October 14th via Magic Bullet Records. The label comments:
"On Sacrificial, Ancient VVisdom delivers ten tracks that continue to push the boundaries of both death rock and neo-folklore while retaining the memorable simplicity and melodic catchiness present on their previous, critically-lauded manifestations.
"Produced by founding vocalist Nathan Opposition, engineered by Travis Smith at The Diamond Factory Studios in Austin and mastered by Paul Logus (Anthrax, Clutch, Hellyeah, Shadows Fall et al) at Taloowa Mastering in New York, Sacrificial fuses all the prime qualities of the likes of Black Sabbath, Metallica, and Quicksand, into a wholly anthemic album of dark and light.
"Thematically, Sacrificial delves further into singer Nathan Opposition's personal ascent into the unanticipated enlightenment of exploring humanity's universal darkness. Whereas traditional lore dealing with the occult, paganism, and Satan tends to be heavy-handed (and often synonymous with a proverbial descent away from any sort of positive self-affirmation), Sacrificial spins a slant wherein 'down' becomes 'up.'
"In Opposition's world, confronting one's own demons and humanity's primordial penchant toward chaos and destructive ritual will ultimately pass each seeker through a threshold unto which deeper knowledge, sage wisdom, and self-realization envelop one's consciousness.: More...
“In horror, we are joined together to unveil the ‘Never Live Again’ music video,” proclaims Ancient VVisdom vocalist Nathan Opposition as he reveals the haunting clip for the occult/dark rock group’s new single, taken from sophomore release “Deathlike.”
Directed by Nathan Daughdrill (Neight Media), “Never Live Again” can be seen below, courtesy of Bloody Disgusting.
“In this video,” says Opposition, “we wanted to portray horror and the fine art of self-awakening. The executioner stands as the final act of judgment upon your mortal existence. Because we’re all dying to live, I challenge the listeners and viewers to go beyond the realms of their own consciousness to expand the mind into a new positive reality while they still have time. Inspired by Black Sabbath’s ‘Killing Yourself To Live,’ I wrote this song to invoke change. I believe this generation needs to learn a thing or two about their own existence.” More...

One of the most defining moments in my musical development was back in 2004 when Yahoo Launch saw that I liked listening to Unearth, Fear Factory, and Lamb of God and thought that I might enjoy My Chemical Romance's “I'm Not Okay.” That single moment of revulsion caused me to look for music on my own terms after seeing how some corny and cheesy pop-rock could somehow be marketed towards metalheads. Today, we see a number of bands that try to look and act like they're part of the metal scene through their image (and the bands they tour with), but have a sound rooted more in traditional rock and roll than anything spawned by Sabbath.
First off, I'm not here to debate the merits of bands like Ghost and Ancient VVisdom. The debate over artistic integrity isn't at all relevant here. Instead, this is about is marketing and claiming bands that in no way sound “metal” are still technically considered part of the metal scene. Personally, I do like some occult rock as I've long been a fan of Current 93 and I've done my fair share of listening to Coven. That said, I'd never call Current 93 a metal band nor would I want the group touring with Cannibal Corpse. Variety between acts belongs to big music festivals like Bonaroo and Lollapalooza, and not to small club shows. More...

Commented singer/songwriter Nathan Opposition: “Our tour was a great experience! We did some amazing things including Inferno Fest and Roadburn, we hung out in Prague, did a BBC 1 recording session… it was fantastic! We also paid a visit to Stonehenge, which was awesome. Touristy, yes, but truly a rejuvenating, renewal of energy.”
Ancient VVisdom will be spreading diabolic sounds across the airwaves of the United Kingdom on the popular BBC Radio 1 “The Rock Show with Daniel P. Carter" with a live set recorded in the studio during their tour last month. The set airs today at this location.
