Lizzy Borden To Film New Video This Weekend

LIZZY BORDEN will film a video this weekend for the song "Tomorrow Never Comes".

The clip, which will be shot on location in downtown Los Angeles with director Kevin Mcvey, is described as "a haunted little tale."

This will be the first video from the band's forthcoming album, "Appointment with Death", due in the U.S. on October 30 via Metal Blade Records (November 5 in Europe). Appearing in the clip will be bandmembers Lizzy Borden, Joey Scott, Marten Andersson and Ira Black.

"Appointment with Death" was produced by Lizzy Borden and Joey Scott. It was recorded at the Zanzibar studios in N. Hollywood CA and was mixed by Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL, ex-MORBID ANGEL) at Mana sound in Florida

Like all past Lizzy Borden recordings, "Appointment with Death" is a conceptual piece; this concept is centered around the theme of, as the title implies, death.

Commented Lizzy: "Oddly enough, writing eleven songs about death was no easy task for me; lyrically being graphic or grotesque would have been too easy, and being overly morbid would bring nothing new to the concept. I wrote this just like I have all of the other LB recordings, as a play or a movie. There is a beginning, middle and an end with the lead character taking us on a journey. Death is all around us, lurking, waiting to pounce, striking fear and antagonizing the living in many different ways, I tried to explore some of those ways in the most poetic way that I know how."

The music on "Appointment with Death" was composed by Lizzy, Ira Black, Marten Andersson and Joey Scott and is epic, heavy, dark and melodic — everything a traditional LIZZY BORDEN recording should be and more. With new guitarist Ira Black along with Marten Andersson on bass and co/founder Joey Scott on the drums, the LIZZY BORDEN sound has evolved into a multi-dimensional ever-lasting-gobstopper working just as well in an ipod as it has always done on stage.

Said Lizzy: "These musicians are more then just special guests, they all, each in their own original way helped to create this work of fiction and bring 'Appointment with Death' to life."

Musicians appearing on the CD:

Lizzy (LIZZY BORDEN)
Joey Scott (LIZZY BORDEN)
Marten Andersson (LIZZY BORDEN, GEORGE LYNCH)
Ira Black (LIZZY BORDEN, METAL CHURCH)
George Lynch (DOKKEN, LYNCH MOB)
Dave Meniketti (Y & T)
Corey Beaulieu (TRIVIUM)
Jonas Hansson (SILVER MOUNTAIN)
Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL, ex-MORBID ANGEL)
Michael T. Ross (ANGEL, HARDLINE)
Adam Cameron
Zane
Marliese Quance

"I notice quite a few young fans in the audience now. Looks like its all coming around again.

"The record is coming along well and we are still aiming for September as a release. I think the fans will be happy with the record. It rocks! It 100% recaptures the DOKKEN sound and more.

Rhino Records in March revisited DOKKEN's early days with a pair of releases packed with previously unissued material. The first release, a CD entitled "From Conception: Live 1981", captures DOKKEN in an early, previously unseen concert recorded before the band signed with Elektra. The second release is the DVD debut of the band's first home video, the platinum-certified "Unchain the Night", which is expanded with unreleased videos and new extended interviews with the band.

The Beatles Go Metal?

On October 24, 2006, Restless Records will release "Butchering The Beatles" — featuring the biggest, the baddest, the heaviest all-star line-up ever assembled to honor what is arguably the greatest band ever — THE BEATLES. All-in-all, over 50 internationally known recording artists bring their unique bone-crushing slant to these remarkable songs. Produced by Grammy award-winning producer/guitarist Bob Kulick and ace engineer Brett Chassen, "Butchering The Beatles" features 12 new, ass-kicking versions of THE BEATLES' chart-topping hits, including "Hey Jude", "I Feel Fine" and "Day Tripper", plus the more esoteric "Hey Bulldog", barked out by the legendary Alice Cooper and "Tomorrow Never Knows", uniquely interpreted by the iconic Billy Idol, alongside classic concept songs like "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" and "Magical Mystery Tour".

When asked by Guitar Player magazine what possessed him to go all metal on THE BEATLES, Bob Kulick stated that, "BEATLES songs are the Holy Grail. They're the best rock songs ever written. These new recordings are totally faithful, yet completely different. Billy Gibbons singing 'Revolution' or (MOTÖRHEAD frontman) Lemmy singing 'Back In The USSR' are not exactly Paul McCartney or John Lennon. And of course, the guitar solo sections were lengthened to accommodate all the artists' solo styles."

Iron Maiden All-Star Tribute Planned

On October 11, IRON MAIDEN fans the world over will have something new to get excited about as the newly re-launched Restless Records releases "Numbers from the Beast: An All Star Salute to Iron Maiden", a tribute to the legendary band. The album, which features MAIDEN's own Paul Di'Anno and marks Restless' return to its metal and punk roots, is produced by Grammy award winner and tribute album pioneer Bob Kulick (KISS, METALLICA, AEROSMITH), along with Brett Chassen, and features appearances from current or former members of IRON MAIDEN, KISS, AC/DC, MOTÖRHEAD, ANTHRAX, DIO, JUDAS PRIEST, TESTAMENT, TWISTED SISTER, EXTREME, WHITESNAKE, SLAUGHTER, HELMET, DOKKEN and many others.

"It's a fitting salute to an awesome band and may be the best tribute I've ever produced. I really like what we've done to these amazing songs, and more importantly, the band approves," says Kulick of the album.

"Numbers from the Beast" features 11 classic IRON MAIDEN tunes revamped in honor of the band's 25th anniversary. The final track listing is as follows:

01. Run to the Hills
02. Wasted Years
03. Wrathchild
04. Flight of Icarus
05. Fear of the Dark
06. The Trooper
07. Aces High
08. 2 Minutes to Midnight
09. Can I Play With Madness?
10. The Evil That Men Do
11. The Wickerman

The cover of every official IRON MAIDEN album has featured a zombie called "Eddie." Eddie has been painted by artist Derek Riggs for 20 years. "Numbers from the Beast" cover art was naturally painted by Riggs and is a must-have for any MAIDEN fan.

"Numbers from the Beast" marks the first release on the newly revamped Restless Records. William Hein, current president of Rykodisc and former head of Enigma Records, co-founded Restless in 1985 as a punk and metal sub-label of Enigma. Restless became a stand-alone label after Capitol-EMI acquired Enigma, and was subsequently acquired by Rykodisc in 2003. Now, back with a new sound and logo, Restless returns to its roots with the MAIDEN salute, as well as an upcoming reissue from California punk outfit 45 GRAVE.

Don Dokken On Paying Hell In The Music Industry

DOKKEN frontman DON DOKKEN talked candidly with Electricbasement.com's Jeff Kerby on the financial rigors of the music industry, "Do you know what a CD costs to manufacture, shrink-wrap and take out the door? 50 cents. People in the industry want to know why fans are downloading songs for free—well, it’s because there is such a greedy profit margin. Why can’t it just be like a regular price like maybe $10.99? That would be a fair amount of money—about a buck a song. When you’re making discs for fifty cents and gouging everyone, then that’s what’s going to happen. It is Hell To Pay just like the title of our album. It’s judgment day folks and labels are dropping like flies."

He expands on the plight of bands, "...a lot of bands, and you’ve heard this on Behind the Music, they’ve made millions and then woke up one day like TLC, and they had nothing. It’s like, 'where is all the money?' It would be great if everyone had a lawyer and an accountant in their band so that everyone could watch the cookie jar and make sure that people keep their hands out of it, but if you’re going down the highway for ten hours to your next gig, and you have a home or a lot of other properties, someone is going to have to pay the electric bill, the gas bill and the phone bill. You just can’t do that type of thing if you happen to be in Spain. At some point you do have to hire someone to take care of your finances. That would be a business manager, and some are honest while others aren’t. It’s just so tempting though when they see money coming in to take just a little to see if it’s missed. If it isn’t, then maybe they do it again. They know that you’re on the road for eighteen months, so it’s really tempting."

He does admit to being happy with his current label, Sanctuary Records, in which they recently issued their 6th release with them, Hell To Pay, "Everybody is making money, and everyone is happy, so why leave? Don’t fix it if it isn’t broken."

George Lynch Discusses Relationshop With Dokken

In an in-depth interview with Electricbasement.com, ex-DOKKEN guitarist GEORGE LYNCH talks about the early underpinnings of his severely strained relationship with vocalist DON DOKKEN. Lynch claims the vocalist snuck material from him prior to him joining Dokken. Lynch was in a SoCal band called Xciter at the time. "...Don said he had an interest in recording one of my songs. He had a publishing deal in Europe. I said, 'I'm listening.' So next think you know, he's asking to come by and hear my material and do a deal. He wanted to record it for some money. I said 'cool.'

"But he never called me back or showed up. He went to Europe and sold the song, but didn't put our names on it. He put his name on it, made money and spent it. He came back to America and asked for me to form a band with him. During this conversation, I brought up the song issue.

"I asked to see the paperwork on the publishing deal. He was very nervous about it. In the back pages (of the contract) was a signatory page with his signature on it. It said 'Paris Is Burning' written by Don Dokken."

When asked why he didn't sue Don, Lynch explains, "When Don rips someone off, he covers his ass. He really does. That's exactly what happened." Lynch also said he didn't have enough to get a laywer at the time and also, suing in Europe would have proved too much of a hassle, "...but what was I going to do, pay in Deutsche marks?! I drove a liquor truck, so I didn't make enough money to hire a lawyer. On the one hand, you can sue; on the other, you can join his (Don's) band. It's always a dangling carrot. He's a very clever con artist."

Former Dokken Bassist Has No Desire To Rejoin Band

Jeff Pilson, perhaps best known for his bass and backing vocals work in Dokken, talked candidly with ElectricBasement.com about why Dokken does not fit into his future plans. He explains why the oft-derided "Shadowlife" album didn't work and how the problems persisted since. "It's a little too simple to simply blame guitarist George [Lynch] for that one," Pilson said. "We were really a band in chaos at that point, way too divisive. George did want to keep his distance from Don on that one, so in that way he added to the divisiveness. But we had generally worked up our records without Don at first, then he would come in at some point. But this time it didn't work. We also made too much of an attempt to NOT be Dokken, which was a mistake. And [producer] Kelly Gray was only doing his job of trying to make what we wanted, but that went way too far. Kelly and Don did work out a lot of the final vocals, which didn't work out well either. So I wouldn't just blame George. I know I tried to add a progressive element to it, which didn't really work, odd time signatures, etc. Plus the sounds were just not vintage Dokken — another mistake. Really it was an example of a band who had no focus and had lost its working chemistry. That's probably a big reason why I'm not too excited at the thought of working with Dokken again. I don't see the point. I would rather work with George where I know we still have our chemistry."

Pilson recently laid down bass tracks for the new Dio album, "Master of the Moon", and had this to say about the material and how it compares to his previous Dio collaborations, "Strange Highways" and "Angry Machines", "It's more like classic Dio than those two records. They were a bit more 'modern' and experimental. This new one is classic Dio — great songs. Dio fans will love it. I think there are a few songs on it which are masterpieces, and I don't use that word lightly." Bassist Rudy Sarzo was unable to record with the band due to prior commitments, but is now the permanent member, currently touring in Russia.
