Dokken Releases "Gypsy" Video

Legendary American rockers, Dokken, have released the infectious new single, "Gypsy", taken from the band’s 13th studio album, "Heaven Comes Down," set for release on October 27 via Silver Lining Music.

"While writing the new record, we had written a lot of music, but I sometimes got stuck with the lyrics so I decided to go camping," explains Don Dokken. "I came across a woman wearing a lot of necklaces and jewelry. She was driving an old wagon with one horse and she was stuck in a hole, I asked her if she needed help but she said ‘no the sun will be up soon’. She had a fire going and invited me to have some food that was cooking in an old pot, so I did and we began to talk."

"She spoke in broken English and looked Navaho" continues Don. "There is a reservation here in New Mexico. The first thing she said to me was ‘you make music’ and I was intrigued by that, so we sat there for several hours and talked, she looked very old yet wise. She told me about her life living on the reservation and I told her about my life. She told me I had lost my way, which I found funny since she seemed to be lost but wasn’t! It was pitch black, she looked up and said ‘the stars guide me’ and started speaking Navaho. I found the experience very surreal!"

Don concludes, "I got my jack out of my truck and lifted up her wagon, we both gathered a lot of rocks and filled the hole so she could get her wagon unstuck, and then she just walked away and started to drive off without saying a word, but then she shouted back to me and said ‘the sun is coming up… you need to go, the coyotes and mount lions will be hunting soon’... very wise advice!"

Dokken Announces New Album "Heaven Comes Down"

An unapologetic celebration of everything Dokken do best, yet now through a wiser and richer lens, "Heaven Comes Down," the 13th studio album from the legendary American rockers, will be released on October 27 via Silver Lining Music.

"The long anticipated new Dokken album, 'Heaven Comes Down,' is finally done and the first single is titled 'Fugitive!,'" declares Don Dokken. "The inspiration for the lyrics came from what seems to me to be an uncertain world these days. It’s an up-tempo rokker as are many on the album. I don't know what the future holds for our world, so I decided to take a step back and watch it all unfold… Yes, I guess I've become like many these days a fugitive from life. Hence the title!"

"The song rocks and the lyrics are self-explanatory," continues Don, "like many songs I've written, it came to me late at night. Inspiration and pure stream of consciousness have always been the best formula for me when composing. It has that classic Dokken sound… A great song to blast when driving down the highway."

Dokken Posts New Lyric Video Online

"No Answer" is the second single taken from the upcoming Dokken release, "The Lost Songs: 1978-1981." Watch a lyric video for the song below.

It wasn’t always multi-platinum sales and stadium gigs for Dokken. There was a first-phase and there were early days, and it is those bold first steps to stardom which are celebrated comprehensively on Dokken’s "The Lost Songs: 1978-1981," out on August 28 via Silver Lining Music.

Featuring spectacular sleeve art by renowned US artist Tokyo Hiro (Motörhead, Motley Crüe), "The Lost Songs: 1978-1981" show the crackle and craft of a hungry young Don Dokken as he embarked upon a journey which started in Southern California and Northern Germany. It is a trek which is testimony to the sheer endeavour and perseverance Don Dokken showed in those few years between 1978 and 1981, starting from when he spent time at a guitar store called Drake’s Music, owned by Drake Levin in Manhattan Beach, California.

A fair selection of the treasure on "The Lost Songs: 1978-1981" are from these early European days. “Felony” carries a thuggish fuzz-coated riff -think early Van Halen in really greasy embroidered denims- while “Day After Day” showed that Don could pen a radio-slaying ballad.

The writing and creation of "The Lost Songs: 1978-1981" are further tribute to enduring early days of struggle in both Germany and LA, Don would return to LA for a spell after those brief European gigs, and he worked with Croucier on material, including perhaps the truest view of Dokken’s then-future “Hit And Run”, which incredibly did not end up on the eventual Breaking The Chains release. From the sunbaked SoCal hook of “Step Into The Light” to the furious, fledgling, late-Sunset Strip sound of “Back In The Streets,” The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 shows Don in his unfettered early days of balls-out attitude, qualities doubtless forged in the sheer nature of the adventures undertaken in writing, recording and deciding Europe was the place to keep cutting his teeth.

"The Lost Songs: 1978-1981" not only shares that magic with the fans, it gives them the final, vital and undeniably missing (until now) early album in the Dokken collection. More...

George Lynch Filming New Documentary

Rock legend George Lynch and Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker Mark McLaughlin have been working on a great documentary that is nearing completion. But they need your help, via their indiegogo page. "Shadowtrain: Under a Crooked Sky" will illuminate the cost of the destruction of the Native American community; to both the indigenous population as well as to their European conquerors.

The documentary will reveal the qualities inherent in indigenous people’s world views that should be recognized and adopted if we all, collectively, intend to not only survive, but to find a way to live happier, more meaningful lives. While engaging a wide variety of opinions from notable activists, authors, artists, elders and shaman, politicians and government officials, clergy, teachers and everyday people, the film will reveal its message through a powerful music-driven road trip.

The journey begins as renowned guitarist George Lynch (Dokken, Lynch Mob), drummer, artist and activist Vinnie Nicastro and a musical band of politically engaged musicians climb into an old station wagon in the southwest desert. They pull a vintage horse trailer, retro-fitted to carry band equipment, solar panels, generators and camping gear.

They travel the back roads, searching for a truth that can speak to power. They visit the Apache, Navajo and Hopi reservations in Arizona, Zuni and Tewa in New Mexico, Shoshone in Nevada, Utes in Utah and Colorado and then on to the Dakotas to visit the people and places that were (and still are) the epicenter of conflict between the native peoples and their European conquerors.

The film is set to feature interviews with Ted Nugent, System Of A Down singer Serj Tankian, Native American Poet and AIM spokesperson John Trudell, Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello, Philospher and Activist Noam Chomsky and many others. Watch the trailer below.

The Rockstar Ramblings: Mad Men

Last Sunday both Motley Crue and The Darkness were featured in Super Bowl ads. They aren’t the first from their genre to sell out, or allow the semi-truck full of cash back up into their driveway, nor will they be the last. Over the past few years a lot of rockers from the eighties have partnered with Madison Avenue to create brief whore-like relationships. This week a look at the new Super Bowl commercials, and a few blasts from the past commercials: More...

Dokken To Enter The Studio To Record New Album

Heavy metal veterans Dokken has announced that they will soon be entering the studio to record a brand new album, which will be released sometime next year through Frontiers Records. This will be the bands first album since 2008s, "Lightning Strikes Again." The group is hoping to finish recording the album by the end of February before hitting the road in June.

"So far we have written 10 songs in only 8 weeks", says singer Don Dokken. "Usually we spend a year or more on our music. I can't explain why this time it came so fast, it just happened. So far the music is very uptempo and heavy, of course we know our fans like the classic Dokken sound and this is where our new music is headed. It’s been a band of brothers doing what we love : 'music'.

"In a perfect world we would like to release the new album before the summer and then play the festivals in Europe. Then hopefully we can jump on a package tour in the US, says Don Dokken. "We want to give everyone a great CD that will keep all music fans Rokkin’ during these troubled times!"

Sunday Old School: Dokken

In 1978 the band Dokken formed, it was soon after the band was composed of Don Dokken (vocals), George Lynch (guitar), Juan Croucier (bass), and Mick Brown (drums). They were wide-eyed and ready to rock, still there was no way anyone could predict a Grammy nomination, die-hard fans, and the Ultimate Warrior style armbands. More...
