The group is set to begin recording their debut album with Adam Mitchell (The Esoteric), with Mitchell also handling all drumming duties while the band searches for a full time drumming replacement for therecently departed Mickey Ortiz. Drummer Marshall Kilpatric, formerly of Today Is The Day, and most recently of The Esoteric, has officially joined Black Light Burns, an alternative outfit fronted by Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit fame. The band also features Danny Lohner (A Perfect Circle). You can check out the group on their MySpace page. The Esoteric officially announced Kilpatric's departure in early-January. Kilpatric has issued the following statement:
"I have officially joined Black Light Burns. For anyone not in the know, it is rounded out by Wes Borland, Danny Lohner, and Nick Annis. I am very excited and eager to begin a new chapter amongst artists who I consider innately talented and highly accomplished. I feel as though I finally have found a group comprised of artisans in a dying age where integrity, initiative, and risk are taken for granted and traded for instant gratification and comfort. I cannot wait for everyone to hear, see, and experience what is in store with us. For everyone who has stood by me and been there along the way for all of the obstacles and difficulty, thank you."
Black Light Burns will release their debut album 'Cruel Melody' on May 22nd.
The Esoteric has officially announced the departure of guitarist Corey White, who left the group for "personal reasons" late last year. Meanwhile, the band has also parted ways with drummer Marshall Kilpatric, who relocated to Los Angeles last fall "To further pursue his personal musical journey." Commenting further, the group states: "Our partings are mutual and amicable and we wish our friends nothing but the best of luck in their future endeavors."
Kilpatric has been replaced by former bandmate Adam Mitchell. According to The Esoteric, "Adam is both a prodigious musician and collaborator as well as an accomplished performer who helped the band forge a unique place in underground music during his time with The Esoteric on his contributions to the benchmark A Reason To Breathe album as well as a vast majority of the band's pioneering back catalog.

The Esoteric have dropped off the remainder of their current tour with At All Cost and Versus The Mirror as a result of vehicle issues. Vocalist Stevie Cruz comments:
"To the bands, promoters, venues, booking agents, and most importantly to anyone planning on attending these upcoming shows, we are very sorry and want nothing more than to rawk with you, sometimes things don't work out as planned. We tried everything possible to continue with the touring but sometimes when it rains, it pours. One after another, problems we did not foresee came to light with our van and trailer and the sad truth is we just could not make ends meet to make all the needed repairs to continue.
Instead of digging ourselves a bigger hole and creating more problems, we decided it was best to nip these problems in the bud so we can be 110% repaired and ready for our tour next month with Mouth Of The Architect. From the bottom of our black hearts, we are very sorry and will be coming back to your area very soon."
Lawrence, Kansas-based innovators THE ESOTERIC will see their latest video debut this weekend on MTV2's "Headbanger's Ball". The clip for "Your New Burden", shot in Palm Springs, California earlier this year, was again directed by Matt Bass of Factory Features. Featuring current and former members of COALESCE, REGGIE AND THE FULL EFFECT, THETA, and TODAY IS THE DAY, THE ESOTERIC recently finished recording their second effort for Prosthetic Records, "Subverter", and are hitting the road to preview new material alongside songs from the last album. Currently gearing up for a jaunt alongside AT ALL COST and VERSUS THE MIRROR, THE ESOTERIC will then hit the road with MOUTH OF THE ARCHITECT throughout August and September.
THE ESOTERIC are well underway recording "Subverter," the band’s forthcoming, second release for Prosthetic Records.
“We've been having a great time recording with Paul Malinowski,” vocalist Steve Cruz comments on the band’s official website. “The sounds he has been getting are amazing and add so much to these songs. We feel like we are making the record we want to make and this time everything is more potent than ever. Each song stands on its own and there is much more variation and intent in all departments.”
Another studio update from drummer Marshall Kilpatric can be viewed at the official website for THE ESOTERIC and in-studio photos can be viewed here.

Lawrence, KS innovators THE ESOTERIC have begun work on their sophomore release for Prosthetic Records, entitled Subverter.
The band begins recording May 8th at Black Lodge Recording in Eudora, KS as well as in an undisclosed location in Kansas City with Producer / Engineer Paul Malinowski (SHINER, OPEN HAND, SEASON TO RISK, etc.). The follow up to last year’s relentless touring schedule and critically-acclaimed debut With the Sureness of Sleepwalking, Subverter will be mixed at KCMO's West End Recording Studios and is slated for a tentative fall 2006 release date through Prosthetic Records.
Vocalist Steve Cruz comments, "Subverter is the next chapter for The Esoteric. It will take the listener through a crash course of everything we have undergone in the last year...a testament to our trials and tribulations as a band and as individuals. We are making this record to challenge the beliefs and ideas of ourselves and of the listener, and to spite the general lack of integrity that's been infecting these so called ‘scenes’."
Some advance song titles include "Science Is Sexy", "Our Exquisite Corpse", "Clone Culture and the Cut-Up Method", "Destroy, She Said", "Nothing Remains the Same", "We Will Not Be Convinced That Now Is Not Our Time", "Don't Waste Guts", and "You Are the Execution".
You can check out some of The Esoteric's prior material on their MySpace page.
THE ESOTERIC have posted their video for the track "Your New Burden" at this location. The Lawrence, Kansas natives again selected Matt Bass to direct the clip, having previously worked with him for the video to "Ram-Faced Boy", the first single from the band's 2005 release "With The Sureness of Sleepwalking". The band, who recently completed a U.S. run of dates with SCARLET, CALICO SYSTEM, and FIGHT PARIS, are continuing to write material for a follow-up release, to be issued via Prosthetic Records.
A brand new mix of "Your New Burden" is available on the Esoteric MySpace page. The reworking comes courtesy of Ed Rose (Get Up Kids, Coalesce, Motion City Soundtrack) at Black Lodge Recording. The song will be issued to radio stations across the country shortly to continue supporting With The Sureness of Sleepwalking. The song is sharper, richer and a little fancier...and it's all for the new video coming in January to MTV2 and FUSE.
THE ESOTERIC have just completed shooting footage for the video to "Your New Burden" in Palm Springs, Calif. The Lawrence, Kan. natives again selected Matt Bass to direct the video, having previously worked with the director on the video for "Ram-Faced Boy," the first track from the band's 2005 release With The Sureness of Sleepwalking to receive the video treatment. The Esoteric, made up of current and former members of Coalesce, Reggie And The Full Effect, Theta, and Today Is The Day, will be touring yet again this winter to continue supporting the record, which garnered critical acclaim and a label from Alternative Press magazine as one of "100 Bands You Need To Know In 2005."
The Esoteric have spent the last year on the road to support With The Sureness of Sleepwalking with such diverse acts as Every Time I Die, High On Fire, The Red Chord, From Autumn To Ashes, Boysetsfire, and labelmates Himsa, while also appearing on a leg of the Vans Warped Tour, and landing a slot at the coveted New England Hardcore and Metal Festival. Now, the band is proud to announce another long trek across the United States, this time alongside Scarlet, Calico System and Fight Paris.
