2015 marked the ten-year anniversary of Austin’s favorite variety festival, Fun Fun Fun Fest. As with past years the festival hosted multiple color-coded stages of genres including rap, indie rock, electronic and comedy. Also, skate ramps and a wrestling ring were on hand. Games were placed throughout Auditorium Shores park to maximize the element of fun. This being Metalunderground.com, though, these following reports will focus on the Black Stage where punk and metal took place.
The forecast called for rain on the first day so many of the attendees were dressed for the weather. Fortunately, it only drizzled. Nothing was the first band I took in on the Black Stage. The Philly-based act released “Guilty of Everything” in 2014 via Relapse Records. They had a nineties alternative sound that fit well with many of the artists at FFF this year. Their guitar sound was noisy, too, which they’ve been branded as a noise rock outfit (another 90s-ism). They sounded good but didn’t do much to keep my interest. More...

VVEREVVOLF GREHV (pronounced as Werewolf Grave) is a one man army of sound distortion and musical exploration. Dapose explains how VVEREVVOLF GREHV came together: “VVEREVVOLF GREHV started because of the bullying of our digital world pushing our minds to be tuned to more kinds of sounds and situations. People are forced to deal with so many fast paced changes, and I think my music is a reflection of the distortions that occur when trying to live and communicate in this environment. And I wanted to hear synthesizers and filters and electronic music beat up on metal music.”

JIM CARREY got into the dark mindset of his latest movie character by listening to the thumping sounds of NINE INCH NAILS and German industrial rockers EINSTURZENDE NEUBAUTEN.
The actor asked THE NUMBER 23 director JOEL SCHUMACHER to help him come up with an iPod tracklist that would help him get into the tormented mind of his obsessed and insane character WALTER SPARROW for dark scenes in the film. So Schumacher commissioned a hardcore goth-rock expert to create a selection of tracks which Carrey could pump through his headphones in between takes.
According to production notes, these tracks included Nine Inch Nails' MR SELF DESTRUCT, VANADIUM I CHING by Einsturzende Neubauten, SKINNY PUPPY's ADDICTION and SLIPKNOT's WAIT & BLEED. A set source says, "Jim often uses music to help him get into character and this pounding industrial rock really helped him create a dark and manic character."
Thye closest thing to metal AOL Music has online this week is the complete stream of Skinny Puppy's "Mythmaker" to be released this week. You can check it out here.
SKINNY PUPPY plan to release their 13th studio album “Mythmaker” on January 30 through SPV America. "Control is a central concept to the record, the idea where mythic archetypes are clung to in an effort to preserve their own f**-up sensibility," Ogre said in a statement. "The most amazing thing that I've found is that people usually look outwards and project on others what they hate most about themselves."
