Enslaved's Dec. 17 show at Sticky Fingers in Gothenburg, Sweden was cancelled by the venue.
The band comments: "We can do nothing else than hope to make it up for the Gothenburgers at some other time.
"Thanks to everybody that has turned up and contributed to making this 'Vertebrae' European tour the best Enslaved tour ever - and even though we're missing Gothenburg we can promise Stockholm, Oslo, Hamar and Bergen top notch killer shows!"
Enslaved recently cancelled their North American tour, stating the issue "lies a tour that was hard to get together in the first place so we've decided to let the whole tour be cancelled and start working on setting up a new North American tour all the way from scratch again..."
Norwegian metallers Enslaved has uploaded their brand new music video for the song, "The Watcher" online. You can check it out below. The band travelled to Gothenburg, Sweden to film the clip along with director Patric Ullaeus, who has previously worked with the likes of Dimmu Borgir and In Flames. The song comes off the bands latest album, "Vertabrae." More...
Norwegian progressive metal artists Enslaved has posted the following message online:
"It is with great regret that Enslaved has to announce the cancellation of the North American 'Vertebrae' tour [with Swallow The Su and Keep Of Kalessin] scheduled for May 2009. At the heart of the issue lies a tour that was hard to get together in the first place so we've decided to let the whole tour be cancelled and start working on setting up a new North American tour all the way from scratch again. . . Our sincere apologies to all the fans that were ready to come out to these shows; but rest assured — we are working day and night on setting up the new tour that will replace these dates."
Norwegian metallers Enslaved recently shot a music video for the song, "The Watcher" in Sweden with the Grammy Award winning director Patric Ullaeus. The band has posted the following report about Ullaeus and the video itself:
“When we got the chance to work with Patric and Revolver, we grasped it with all ten hands. His works are very impressive. We were first exposed to him through Dimmu’s latest video - the whole thing was very professional and remained ‘tasty’ within the fantasy framework. Our previous videos have been do-it-yourself and we have never worked with special effects on such a high level before. The video is built upon a dual development: the band performing the song in parallel with a story line. The story is based upon [lead singer/bassist] Grutle’s lyrics for ‘The Watcher’ and the story is written out in a co-operation between Grutle and [guitarist/songwriter] Ivar [Bjørnson] from the band, and director Patric Ullaeus. Without spoiling the surprise, the video story follows the lines of the lyrics – the individual’s struggle for truth and liberation, about revealing the real chains of existence and breaking them.”
More bands were recently confirmed for Maryland Deathfest VII. Just announced to appear at MDF 2009 are:
Swallow the Sun
The Red Chord
Keep of Kalessin

Pretty Little Flower
Bolt Thrower has released this bit of news regarding their first trip to the USA in 14 years:
"Due to the fact that we are not real festival lovers or great fans of flying, the chances of us ever coming to the States for a one-off show was always very small. But after years of relentless emails from Ryan we've finally given in. It's hard to believe that it's been 14 years since we last played in the US, so we are very happy to announce that we are finally coming back. Bolt Thrower will be playing Maryland Deathfest VII, on May 22-24, 2009, at Sonar, Baltimore, MD."
A few more bands were exected to be included in this announcement, but the organizers are still working on the details. Therefore, another announcement is expected with even more band confirmations in the near future, as they wrap up the booking process for Maryland Deathfest 2009
Tickets will definitely go on sale on Friday, November 7th.

Commented HELHEIM frontman and bass player V'gandr, "We have all known each other for far too long, and the last couple of tours we did together was fun to do, to put it mildly. It helps to know who you are dealing with — there's nothing worse than touring with someone you don't get on with, and we can always be sure that there will be plenty of laughs and beer flowing on the way with the VULTURE INDUSTRIES guys."
HELHEIM recently caused a sensation in Norway when it launched its "Kaoskult" album in front of an audience of young children in a kindergarten.

"Vertebrae", the new album from the Norwegian masters of progressive/experimental metal ENSLAVED, is currently the featured artist over at MySpace Metal.
The new album is also available for streaming in its entirety (for a limited time!) at the groups MySpace Page. The CD will be released in Europe on September 29 via Indie Recordings and in North America on October 28 through Nuclear Blast Records.
"Vertebrae" was recorded during the first months of 2008 — then mixed by Joe Barresi (TOOL, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE) and mastered by the legendary George Marino in Sterling Sound. Produced by Ivar Bjørnson, Herbrand Larsen and Grutle Kjellson.
The album will be supported by extensive touring starting with the "Vertebrae European Tour" in November/December 2008 also featuring STONEGARD and KRAKOW.
Release dates for Obscure's debut album, entitled "On Formaldehyde," have been revealed. In Norway, the album will be in stores on the 29th of September. The rest of the world will get the pleasure to check it out on the 13th of October.
Obscure consists of Roy Kronheim (ex-Enslaved) among others, and "On Formaldehyde" is a diverse classic heavy metal album.
Nuclear Blast Records has announced that they have signed Norwegian black metallers Enslaved and will be releasing the bands forthcoming new album, "Vertabrae." Enslaved guitarist Ivar Bjørnson has said the following of the partnership:
“The U.S. and Canada have become increasingly important territories for ENSLAVED with their increasing sales and feedback from the fans and the scene both within and outside hard-line metal. The two tours we did in 2007 proved our live show qualities to the scene, and the scene proved its dedication to us. We are therefore extremely happy to be working with Nuclear Blast – a formidable force in the record industry. Having met members of the U.S. staff on several occasions, we know that their dedication and professionalism will take ENSLAVED a great step further.
Vertebrae is by far our strongest album, one that we are extremely proud to present to the U.S., to Canada, Mexico, and all other territories. We are very pleased to present it in tandem with Nuclear Blast.”
The version of Gorgoroth fronted by member, Gaahl has posted the following update:
"Gorgoroth will enter the studio in their hometown of Bergen, Norway on August 25th, 2008.
"Eight new tracks composed by King will be recorded for an as-yet-untitled new album. Along with Gaahl, King and Frost on drums, the full recording lineup will include Teloch (guitar) and Ice Dale (guitar).
"ENSLAVED's Herbrand Larsen will once again produce Gorgoroth in the studio."
Enslaved have announced that they are now on the roster of Indie Recordings records. The label is set to release the bands new album "Vertabrae" later this year.
The band comments: "We've known the people behind [Indie Recordings] for years, and have first-hand knowledge of their dedication, enthusiasm and professionalism. This signing makes perfect and utter sense to us; and we are proud to start off this cooperation with our strongest album ever."

American documentary photographer Peter Beste's book "True Norwegian Black Metal" will be issued on May 15 via Vice Books.
In the last two decades a bizarre and violent musical subculture called black metal has emerged in Norway. It has its roots in a heady blend of splatter movies, heavy metal music, Satanism, Pagan mythology and adolescent angst. In the early-mid 1990s, members of this extremist underground committed murder, burned down medieval wooden churches, and desecrated graveyards. What started as juvenile frenzy came to symbolize the start of a war against Christianity, a return to the worship of the ancient Norse gods, and the complete rejection of mainstream society.
Peter Beste has spent the last eight years working in the milieu of this insulated and secretive community. Beste's access and insight has been absolutely without precedent, resulting in an amazing photographic journey. Beste has earned the respect and trust of this impenetrable, suspicious and often elitist community. With each visit Beste saw more, photographed more and eventually accumulated enough material for this book. "True Norwegian Black Metal" is a visual testimonial to this subculture. Peter Beste and editor Johan Kugelberg have created a unique photographic narrative that explores black metal from a truly visceral perspective.
With extensive contributions from the personal archive of Jon "Metalion" Kristiansen, publisher of the original Norwegian black metal publication Slayer magazine, a unique opportunity is here presented to see original artifacts and ephemera from this secluded rock community, and to read accounts of these events in the words of the people who were actually there at the time.
"True Norwegian Black Metal" offers confrontational live performance photographs of a savage subculture set alongside the stark beauty and natural allure of a landscape often shrouded in darkness.
The book is comprised of:
* 160 pages of photographs of the following bands/individuals: Nocturno Culto and Fenriz of DARKTHRONE; Necrobutcher, Hellhammer, Blasphemer, and Maniac of MAYHEM; Samoth of EMPEROR; Frost of SATYRICON; ENSLAVED; Abbath of IMMORTAL; Gaahl, Infernus, King, and Kvitrafn of GORGOROTH; Nattefrost of CARPATHIAN FOREST; 1349; DIMMU BORGIR; ILDJARN; AURA NOIR; and many more
* Interviews/quotes from Frost (1349), Abbath (IMMORTAL), Fenriz (DARKTHRONE), Gaahl (GORGOROTH)
* Essay by authors and Jon "Metalion" Kristiansen, publisher of the original Norwegian black metal publication Slayer magazine, including 32 pages of original artifacts, photographs, ephemera, and personal accounts by black metal's key figures from Krisiansen's personal archive."

Beste has scheduled a photo exhibition beginning May 8 at Steven Kasher Gallery in New York City, with London, Stockholm, Oslo, Berlin, Los Angeles shows to follow.

Los Angeles thrash metal legends SLAYER have been confirmed for the Gods of Metal festival, set to take place June 27-29, 2008 in Bologna, Italy. The festival billing is now shaping up as follows:
Friday, June 27:
Saturday, June 28:
AT THE GATES
Sunday, June 29:
National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences members have nominated SLAYER for the band's third Grammy Award. The SLAYER track, "The Final Six", from the group's 2007 limited-edition "Christ Illusion", was nominated in the category of "Best Metal Performance."
"The Final Six", written by Tom Araya and guitarist Jeff Hanneman and produced by Josh Abraham, is a chilling look at an hypothesized end of the world. The song made its debut last July as the "Single of the Week" on MySpace where it has since accumulated some 750,000 plays, an astounding number for a song that received no commercial airplay.
"When I first got the word, I thought someone was playing a joke," mused Araya. "But obviously, we've made an impression on the industry. The people at the upper levels have taken notice of what we've done, and that's awesome."
SLAYER's two previous Grammy nominations were for 2002's "Disciple" from the album "God Hates Us All", and last year's "Eyes of the Insane", for which they took home the Grammy Award.
Legendary Florida death metallers MORBID ANGEL have been confirmed for the Gods of Metal festival, set to take place June 27-29, 2008 in Bologna, Italy. The festival billing is now shaping up as follows:
IRON MAIDEN (headliner June 27)
JUDAS PRIEST (headliner June 29)
AT THE GATES
More bands will be announced soon.
MORBID ANGEL is currently in the studio working on material for its first studio album since 2003's "Heretic". The upcoming CD will mark the group's first release to feature frontman David Vincent since 1995's "Domination".
MORBID ANGEL is presently unsigned, having parted ways with Earache Records following "Heretic"'s release.
Although MORBID ANGEL's upcoming album does not currently have a name, its title will likely begin with the letter "I", in keeping with the band's tradition of titling their albums in alphabetical order beginning with 1989's "Altars of Madness", and continuing through "Heretic".
MORBID ANGEL's current lineup includes Vincent, guitarist Trey Azagthoth and drummer Pete Sandoval.
Guitarist Ivar Bjørnson and bassist/vocalist Grutle Kjellson of the Norwegian Viking metallers ENSLAVED hit the mainstream press in Norway on October 10, 2007 when they appeared to steal, or according to their rationale, "download," a sheep belonging to politician Lars Sponheim as a protest against his Venstre party's proposed legalization of music downloading.
"It was a symbolic act," Grutle told UK's Terrorizer magazine, "against a party that wants to legalize piracy and copying. A lot of people are downloading stuff and a lot of people don't actually realize that it's illegal and they don't realize what they're doing to hard-working artists. We've received a lot of positive feedback and a good response; some people have decided to pick it up and understood what it's all about even if they don't understand our style of music." More...
The 2008 edition of Italy's Gods Of Metal Festival (www.godsofmetal.it) will be taking place at the Arena Parco Nord in Bologna from June 27th - 29th.
The latest act confirmed for the festival, according to Groovebox.it, is Britain's CARCASS.
Acts on the bill currently include: IRON MAIDEN (headlining June 27th), JUDAS PRIEST (headlining June 29th), CARCASS, MESHUGGAH, AT THE GATES, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN and ENSLAVED.
More bands will be announced soon.
According to a posting on the Italian rock/metal webzine Groovebox.it, JUDAS PRIEST, MESHUGGAH and AT THE GATES are among the newly confirmed bands for the Gods of Metal festival, set to take place June 27-29, 2008 in Bologna, Italy. The festival billing is now shaping up as follows:
IRON MAIDEN (June 27 headliners)
JUDAS PRIEST (June 29 headliners)
AT THE GATES
More bands will be announced soon.
As previously reported, JUDAS PRIEST has also been confirmed for next year's Sweden Rock Festival, which will be held June 4-7, 2008 in in Sölvesborg, Sweden.
JUDAS PRIEST's upcoming tour will include shows where the group's entire upcoming "Nostradamus" album (based on the legendary 16th century prophet Nostradamus) will be performed as well as concerts featuring the band's classic songs, singer Rob Halford revealed during a November 16, 2007 appearance on Eddie Trunk's "Friday Night Rocks" radio show.
Regarding the direction of the material and how whole concept for the "Nostradamus" record came about, Halford recently told PureGrainAudio.com, "It sounds absolutely fucking amazing and that's not me inflating it, it is genuinely spectacular. So we're still carrying on with that and it should be out sometime in 2008. The idea (for the record) came from our manager Bill Curbishley, because we were ready to go in and do another studio record, but Bill came to see us towards the end of the 'Angel of Retribution' tour, he came to Russia, we were playing Russia and we had lunch with him and he said, 'Look, I have this idea.' Bill manages THE WHO, you know, Pete and Roger, and Bill was behind the enormous success of 'Tommy' and he said, 'I just think that you know, maybe you should think about this possibility of doing a concept album and I've been thinking about this guy Nostradamus.' And as soon as he brought the name up, I'm like, I'm there, let's go, you don't have to say anything else. I knew something of him already like everybody does about the books that you read about him, or on the Internet or on TV, documentaries and I thought wow, this is absolutely brilliant so that's where it all came about from."
On the rumors that "Nostradamus" will be a double album, Halford said, "It is a rumor still. I mean, there is an enormous amount of material and you can only put so much on a single CD so you know, we're trying to tell the story of his life and we're trying to cover every significant moment of his life and I think you know, when we got it all recorded, that's when you're faced with the reality of how much time you got and how much a CD will afford you and the timing of it all. So we just ask everyone to bear with us and as we actually get into the mixing mode, we'll be able to be more definitive and tell everybody exactly what we've got, but we just want to make sure we tell his life story so we'll do whatever it takes to do that."
