Guitarist and songwriter Ivar Bjornson and the members of Enslaved have issued their second studio report on their new album:
"First of all I would like - on behalf of the whole band - to thank everybody out there for the massive feedback and support you’ve shown since we started spreading the news of recording a new album. A lot of interesting questions came in for the video Q & A. People have commented both on Facebook and Myspace – we’ve chosen to take that as a compliment and an inspiration!
"There will be another round of Q & As compiled from questions sent in by everyone wishing to do so – it will be announced when another round of question-harvesting is due. Also, someone mentioned that they would like to see these studio reports in a video version. We have something for you too! As we are recording, we are also filming quite a lot - from the actual recordings in the studio, as well as around the studio discussing gear, bringing along the camera for the occasional trip to the pub for beer sampling, celebrating [keyboard player] Herbrand [Larsen]’s birthday with Demonaz [of IMMORTAL] and other friends, filming trips to festivals, and on tour while the album is being made. It is all going to be some kind of ‘behind the scenes’ thing that we will release in connection with the release. More details on that later. More...
Swedish heavy metal outfit Arch Enemy has announced that they will be embarking on a headlining tour of the United Kingdom in April and they will be bringing two special guests with them in the form of legendary British thrash metal band Sabbat and Norwegian band Enslaved. A message from Arch Enemy lead singer Angela Gossow reads as follows:
"We strongly felt its time to visit the shores of The United Kingdom Of Heavy Metal again! We miss you, ladies and gentlemen!!! We only did the Bloodstock festival in 2009. It was a fantastic gig and reminded us of why we love the Amott brothers' homeland so much. Even better, we are bringing the U.K. cult thrashers Sabbat with us and the Norwegian sons of darkness, Enslaved! We will cook up a devastating setlist for this run and won't leave any prisoners behind. Get ready for the Metal Hammer Meltdown attack!"
Ivar Bjørnson, guitarist of metal veterans Enslaved, has revealed in a recent blog that the band has now begun work on a brand new studio album. His message reads as follows:
“This is a short blog from the studio where we – Enslaved – have started to record our new album. We are doing the drums in Duper Studios here in Bergen – this time around we are recording everything in our hometown, something we last did with (2004’s) Isa. Iver Sandøy (TRINACRIA, MANNGARD, EMMERHOFF, T.M.B.) is engineering the drum recording; and we feel we are in very good hands. The remaining instruments will be recorded in Herbrand (Larsen, keyboards) and (lead guitarist) Ice Dale’s Earshot Studio, with a few small exceptions done in Peersonal Sound (my own studio). We’re starting off as we always do: with me and (drummer) Cato (Bekkevold) going in first. The session started out beautifully with the perfect starting point for the drum sound and the first song being laid down by Cato. This song is a musical and lyrical contemplation on a rune - one associated with travel... We'll get back to more on the songs later!
"After 'Vertebrae', it has been a hectic period, with shows, tours and everything that is going on around the band. Yet it has been a remarkably self-energizing process making this new album. For starters, the dynamics have never been better, both literally in the music - and metaphorically, meaning the working climate within the band. Writing music is rewarding when you know the other members will take your ideas seriously and give everything they’ve got to make the best out of every single idea. The amazing feedback we’ve gotten after Vertebrae hasn’t exactly made us more modest: We picked up some very valuable confidence from that. A third pillar of inspiration is the continuing ideological struggle against the dogmas: political, monotheistic, moral dogmas that keep getting a stronger and stronger chokehold on man. Some dangers are growing while others are on the rebound (for now). Enslaved is an ongoing project to channel alternative currents; resistance to those trying to force-fit the mind into the tiny squares of one-doms and tyrannies.
"After all that hot air, I’ve asked Cato to provide some thoughts on the new material and the recording process: More...

Out of Norway's biggest and darkest metal bands rises Ov Hell. This group of Satan’s all-stars has been sharpening their teeth in some of black metal's most influential bands for many years. Known as key figures in bands such as Dimmu Borgir and Gorgoroth, Shagrath and King have come together to bring forward a new chapter in Norwegian black metal history. Ov Hell will carry on in the same tradition for which King and Shagrath are known, but the collaboration between the two will mark a new era for them both.
Frost (Satyricon, 1349), Ice Dale (Enslaved, I) and Teloch (Nidingr, God Seed, 1349) have been recruited for the first full-length release. The album will contain all of the power and blast beats worthy of their evil pedigrees.
King comments: "The first Ov Hell release will contain music I've worked on in my Gorgoroth and God Seed years. It's been a little hell to actually see this music form into a band, so the name of the band is quite suitable. Through the first song I got from Shagrath I knew that he would be the perfect man to join forces with. He has strong individual qualities and a strong will to power. I am very positive that when we finish up this album it will be an album that won't sound like anything we have done before, and with a quality that won't stand back from anything presented in black metal earlier!"
Shagrath comments: “With both of our demanding music careers and other projects, timing was not on our side. After last years inferno festival, King and I yet again joined forces to brainstorm our need to collaborate our passion for dark art. Over the course of the past year, King sent me demo ideas that were so inspiring it made me put my skeptic feelings aside. I wasn't sure if I wanted to have another Black Metal project but my unquenchable thirst to explore my darkest beast, launched the birth Ov Hell. The majestic Ov Hell has become a band that reflects our roots, raw, ugly, arrogantly blasphemous with uncompromising truth from two influential Norwegian musicians needing to express our primitive side, straight out Ov Hell.”
Two new tracks, "Devil's Harlot" and "Ghosting" from the yet untitled upcoming album, have been uploaded to the band's MySpace.
Shagrath (Dimmu Borgir, Chrome Division) - vocals
King (God Seed, Gorgoroth, Jotunspor, I, Sahg, Audrey Horne) - bass
Ice Dale (Enslaved, I, Audrey Horne, Trinacria, Demonaz) - guitar
Frost (Satyricon, 1349) - drums
Teloch (Nidingr, God Seed, 1349, Umoral) – guitar.

Enslaved, and various band members, will be doing several special shows during the festival.

Ivar Bjørnson, guitarist of Norway's Enslaved, has checked in with the following update:
"We’re parked in Boulder; a few minutes have passed since today's soundcheck at the Fox Theatre. We’re having the pleasure of being Special Guests with Opeth, and these guys really know how to pull a full house-and that’s an understatement. We started the tour on May 1st in New Jersey, or Sayreville to be specific. We had arrived the night before in New York without any other drama than Yours Truly emptying the plane’s supply of those little white wine bottles. We were picked up by the tour bus and driver Deana. Of course our barrel of gunpowder-manager/ tour manager Tonje came along to work in the new guys, but other than her we were about to try a brand new, all-American crew. With one exception this has been a grand success, these Americans do have great work ethos. The mentioned exception turned out to be the sound guy, who got replaced after a very short time. A blog is nowhere for public scolding; let’s just say that our expectations on one side and actual knowledge and experience on the other was as mismatched as Paradise Hotel contestants’ views on their own importance in popular cultural history on one side and reality on the other. Wow, that comparison was kind of pompous, wasn’t it? Well, being the composer for a band many dub 'progressive' (not our own words), I guess it is proper to use pretentious language from time to time. More...
