August Burns Red Burns Bright In Tennessee

Metalcore and deathcore have become polarizing genres within the sphere of heavy metal, although the fans of both are just as fervent as the other genres, if not moreso. The lyrical sides of these genres are quickly becoming known for their earnest natures, cutting out the bullshit that several other genres tend to lather themselves up in to define themselves.

Hitting Nashville on the night of November 4th at the wonderfully eccentric Rocketown was a group of bands that take the high road, headlined by August Burns Red and assisted by Blessthefall, Defeater, and Beartooth. It was an unusually early show, with myself and bunches of attendees still in the security line awaiting entry while Beartooth were playing, having started promptly at 6:30.

August Burns Red Announces Christmas Show

Continuing a tradition that has spanned 8 years, August Burns Red is excited to announce plans for the group's annual hometown Christmas show this coming December 15th, 2013 in Lancaster, PA.

Following a string of sell-outs in August Burns Red's hometown market, this year sees ABR move into the spacious Lancaster County Convention Center for a massive show that caps off the band’s six week North American tour and combines it with a date on the headlining run of Every Time I Die. Supporting the two acts will be Defeater, Letlive, Code Orange Kids, One Year Later, and The Road To Milestone.

"In addition to holiday releases such as singles and last year’s Sleddin’ Hill, we’ve long had a tradition of ending the year with our annual Christmas show in Lancaster, PA,” explains guitarist JB Brubaker. “This year we are doing it a bit earlier than usual, and we're joining forces with the Every Time I Die tour to make this the biggest line up we've ever had and taking the show to the Lancaster County Convention Center in downtown Lancaster. It will be the last date of our US headline tour, and a festive way to wrap up the tour."

The show will mark the band’s final performance for 2013, a momentous year that included a Billboard Top 10 debut for latest album, "Rescue & Restore," a mainstage spot on Warped Tour, and a forthcoming DVD chronicling the entire 18-month touring cycle behind the band’s breakout 2011 album "Leveler," entitled "Foreign & Familiar."

August Burns Red Guitarist To Sit Out Tour

August Burn Red's Brent Rambler has issued the following announcement about sitting out the band's upcoming tour dates:

"As some of you may know, my wife and I are expecting our first baby VERY soon. Because of this I have decided to sit out this European tour, so I can be home to help my wife during the last few weeks of her pregnancy and ensure that I'm present when my son is born.

"HOWEVER, do not worry, as my guitar playing duties have been left in the very capable and very shreddy hands of Mr. Justin Huffman (ex-I, The Breather). Justin has been friends with the band for a very long time, and he's been practicing these songs since April, so everything will sound awesome for our amazing fans overseas. Heck, he even kind of looks like me.

"I will make my triumphant return to the band for our North American Headlining tour, which starts November 1st at the Union Transfer in Philadelphia, but in the mean time please show Justin an awesome time!

"My wife and I can't wait to welcome our baby into this world, and I hope that all of our European fans have a blast over the next 3 weeks! I wish I could be there, and I'll see you next time!" More...

August Burns Red Announces DVD Release

After wrapping up a momentous summer that included a Billboard Top 10 debut for latest album, "Rescue & Restore," and a mainstage spot on Warped Tour, August Burns Red is preparing to unveil another offering, a brand-new DVD entitled "Foreign & Familiar" to release this fall.

The documentary chronicles the entire 18-month touring cycle behind the band’s breakout 2011 album "Leveler." From headlining tours of North America, Europe, Japan and Australia - with stops in New Zealand, Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and more along the way -
"Foreign & Familiar" shows the globetrotting act doing what it does best in settings all over the world.

"Foreign & Familiar has literally been three years in the making," explains guitarist JB Brubaker. "It's no small task to try and squeeze 18 months of touring into a two hour package, but that's exactly what we have here. I am grateful that we were able to pull this DVD together, as this is something we'll all be able to look back on as old men and remember the good ol' days. I think anyone who cares about this band will find Foreign & Familiar to be an entertaining and insightful behind the scenes look at ABR on the road."

The band is also pleased to announce the Endless Chicago Weekend event on November 22nd and 23rd, featuring back-to-back shows at Chicago's House of Blues and, for fans holding a weekend pass, early entry on Saturday to attend an exclusive screening of "Foreign & Familiar," followed by a Q&A and meet-and-greet with the band.

August Burns Red Posts "Fault Line" Video

August Burns Red is pleased to unveil a new video for the track “Fault Line," which comes off new album "Rescue & Restore."

Directed by Daniel Davison, the explosive video comes on the heels of last week’s #9 debut of "Rescue & Restore" on the Billboard 200 – the highest chart position of August Burns Red’s career.

“This was one of the most enjoyable videos we’ve ever made,” says guitarist JB Brubaker. “Working with Daniel Davison was a pleasure. He had a vision for the video and knew exactly what he wanted from us before a second of footage had even been shot. The story sections of the video came out beautifully, and I'm pretty stoked on how it turned out.” More...

August Burns Red Streaming New Song

Two weeks ago August Burns Red let the world in on a first taste of the band's fifth full-length album, "Rescue & Restore," via a lyric video for scorching track “Fault Line.”

Today, August Burns Red is releasing the new track “Spirit Breaker.” In addition, ABR is also unveiling a free digital sampler of some of the band’s favorite tracks from previous releases. While “Spirit Breaker” is available to stream for everyone, only fans who sign up for the band’s mailing list will receive the sampler. Listen to "Spirit Breaker" and download the sampler over here.

"When picking songs to preview the album we wanted to share a variety of different songs as this album is pretty diverse,” explains guitarist JB Brubaker. “‘Spirit Breaker’ is one of the more melodic songs on Rescue & Restore and features one of my favorite clean sections on the album. It's not as heavy as the majority of the album but we feel like it still hits hard and has the potential to be a great live song."

“Rescue & Restore is about challenging other bands and ourselves, as well as fans of this music, to want more than whatever happens to be the current buzz,” explains Brubaker. “We’ve done our best with each new album to try to push our sound in new directions and we’d like to see our peers do the same. People need to realize that there’s not much of a difference between a metalcore song that has a couple breakdowns with a repeating chorus and the latest Lady Gaga song. This genre used to be better than that. It can still be better than that.”

August Burns Red Reveals New Album

Two years since the release of the "Leveler" album, August Burns Red is set to return with fifth album "Rescue & Restore," available via Solid State Records on June 25th.

The album, described by guitarist and principal songwriter JB Brubaker as the band’s “most ambitious album yet,” turns a critical eye to the oft-maligned genre of metalcore, leading by example to prove that bands can still find exciting new ways to expand the style.

“At the end of the day we are still a very heavy band,” he explains. “Rescue & Restore still has plenty of really heavy stuff, techy odd meter riffs, and all the stuff that people have come to expect from us, it just has a lot more surprises along the way.”

In support of "Rescue & Restore," the band will be performing all summer long as a mainstage act on the 2013 Vans Warped Tour, marking August Burns Red's third appearance overall and first since 2011. More...

August Burns Red Checks In From The Studio

August Burns Red will be releasing a limited split with Silverstein titled "Four Minutes Being Cool" for the upcoming Record Store Day, and the band is also at work on a new full-length album. August Burns Red has now checked in from the studio with the following recording update:

"Hey everyone, I wanted to update you on where we are currently at with the recording of our 5th full length album. We officially started tracking about a month ago and by the end of this week we will be completely finished with the tracking phase of the album. Dustin wrapped up bass yesterday and Matt just put the finishing touches on his drums by sprinkling some overdubs (tambourine, shakers, conga, etc) over a bunch of songs. JB and Brent wrapped up all their guitars last week and Jake will be done recording vocals in a couple days.

"What does all this mean? Well, we are nearly done with the hard work aspect of this album and can get into the mixing, which is the fun stuff. While nearly all the elements are in place, the levels of each instrument are all over the place. We’ll be spending all of next week mixing the album and making sure it sounds awesome. After working on this intensely for the last few months, we are beyond excited to hear all the elements come together.

"I’m terrible at describing our music so I’ll just say that this album is going to be a really fun listen with a lot of meat to sink your teeth into. We can’t wait for you to hear it!"

August Burns Red To Record New Album

Following two monstrous years that saw August Burns Red release multiple albums – 2011’s "Leveler" and 2012’s holiday album, "Sleddin’ Hill" – the PA-based quintet is back at it. Beginning next week the band will hit the studio to start recording a fifth full-length album (holiday releases notwithstanding), due out later this year.

“2012 turned out to be quite intense for us from a touring standpoint,” says guitarist JB Brubaker. “We did more traveling than we had ever previously done in our career and after three straight months on the road to end the year I think we were all ready to come home and shift into writing/recording mode. Now that the writing is complete we are all itching to get started with the actual tracking.”

August Burns Red has opted to keep it in the family for the forthcoming effort, reteaming with Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland of Atrium Audio - the same hometown studio where the band recorded last year’s "Sleddin’ Hill." More...
