Marty Friedman Issues Album Update

Following the "Inferno" album from 2014, Marty Friedman has a new album in the works and just issued this update on the recording progress:

"So I'm DONE with all my guitars on the new album! Jens Bogren (who mixed Inferno) is in Sweden right now mixing it, and so far 5 songs are done. Jens is knocking them out of the park. He is super fast and knows my sound, as you can hear on 'Inferno.'

"This time it's even more ambitious than that album was, a bit more dense, and with any luck more exciting for those of you who will hear it. There will be 11 or 12 songs in total. Sometimes a song you really love doesn't make it to the album because it doesn't fit nicely in the sequencing. Either way, we`re pushing 60 minutes so it won't be a short album." More...

Marty Friedman Announces Guitar Clinic

Guitarist (and current Tokyo resident) Marty Friedman recently returned to America for a series of appearances centered around the annual NAMM convention in Anaheim, California.

First, Frideman surprised fans by making a special guest appearance during Los Angeles-based glam metal act Steel Panther’s performance at the Grove of Anaheim during the “NAMM Jam” event on January 23rd.

Friedman will next be seen hosting a sold-out lecture at the Japan Foundation of Los Angeles tonight (January 26th), where he will detail his immersion into Japanese culture and how it opened new opportunities for his career. The event will be followed by a brief fan Q&A session and meet-and-greet.

To cap off his visit to the States, Friedman will host a special guitar clinic at Los Angeles’ famous music college, Musicians Institute, exclusively for students and alumni. The clinic will take place at MI’s Concert Hall on Tuesday, January 27th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.

Described as his “purest, heaviest guitar work” (NPR), Friedman has spent the past year promoting his Billboard-charting solo album, “Inferno,” on worldwide tours alongside Gus G., Arch Enemy, Kreator, Shining, and a slot on Japan’s largest heavy metal festival, Loud Park. More...

Marty Friedman Releases "Undertow" Music Video

Ex-Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman released a new music video for the track "Undertow." The song appears on the latest album "Inferno," which was issued back in May via Prosthetic Records.

The video features an unsullied look at Japanese culture, says Friedman (who currently resides in Tokyo): "'Undertow' gives you a look at the Japan not usually seen by the typical Japanese exports like crazy TV shows, ultra-cute singers and anime. It shows a day in the life of Japan as the Japanese see it, not the stereotypical Western 'Japanophile' view of it."

Regarding the video's concept, Friedman explains that "the 'Undertow' video attempts to show that when you see a thing of beauty, there is often an undercurrent of true sadness and hardship behind the scenes which creates the motivation to do something extraordinary."

Munkeby adds: “We’re super happy to play these shows with old and new metal gods alike! To add to that, we’re even doing a very special and unique set together with Marty Friedman on stage, which will include both Shining and Marty material.
