Marty Friedman Releases "Inferno" Video

Guitarist Marty Friedman has unveiled the music video for “Inferno,” the title track from his new album due out in North America on May 27th.

The concept for the clip — directed by Friedman and David Brodsky (Devin Townsend, The Black Dahlia Murder) — was inspired by a television show in Japan, where Friedman currently lives and is a popular TV personality himself.

Says Friedman “The music video for ‘Inferno’ is an homage/parody of one of my fave Japanese TV shows, ‘Zenryokusaka‘ (‘Full Power Hill’). It’s a weekly five-minute show where the entire premise is absolutely nothing but a girl running up a hill. Each week a different girl, and a different hill. I am hooked on this show, and think it is genius in its simplicity and ever-so-slight sexual nature. It took me a while to explain the charm of the show to the video director, but I think towards the end of making our video together, he got it. It’s like many things that happen outside the culture you were born in; you either get it and it’s fresh or you don’t and it’s just weird.”

The “Inferno” album was recorded mostly in Los Angeles with engineer Chris Rakestraw (Danzig, Children of Bodom) and mixed by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Amon Amarth). Featuring notable guest appearances and collaborations with acts including Rodrigo y Gabriela, Jason Becker, Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom), Dave Davidson (Revocation) and Danko Jones, the album features what Friedman describes as the heaviest and most intense playing and writing of his career. "Steroidhead" sees Friedman backed by some notable young musicians -- Keshav Dhar and Anup Sastry (Skyharbor). Says Friedman: "I love working with innovative, risky and borderline crazy musicians, and the guys on 'Steroidhead' certainly fit that description. Each track on the album has a separate dream team on it, so it feels like a constant barrage of fresh interpretations of my music."

Due in May, "Inferno," is Friedman's first solo album of original material in four years, and his first recording in more than a decade that will be released worldwide simultaneously. Featuring what he describes as the heaviest, most intense playing of his career, the album will feature guest appearances by Alexi Laiho (Children Of Bodom), flamenco/metal acoustic duo Rodrigo y Gabriela and Revocation's David Davidson. Marty Friedman To Sell Megadeth Guitars For Japan

Former Megadeth axeman Marty Friedman, who currently lives in Japan, has posted the following statement online announcing that he will be selling his own Megadeth-era guitars for help in the relief of Japanese earthquake vicitims.

"Thank you all for your support and prayers. I am 100% fine, 100% healthy and in better shape than ever. However, there are many, many people here in Japan that are facing an unbelievable tragedy.

"It's time to go to the next step. I will be auctioning ALL of my guitars from the Megadeth-era and will donate 100% of the proceeds to the earthquake relief.

"I am going to L.A. right NOW to the climate controlled lockup where all the guitars have been in their cases since January 2000. All guitars I used on all the Megadeth recordings, tours, videos, everything WILL be auctioned off.

"When I get to the lockup, I will do my best to sort out which was used for what (I suck at that...I'm sure many of you guys know better than I do) and notate as many details as possible. Pictures, descriptions and how to bid will all be up on my U.S. website as well as my Japanese website within 2-3 days.

"I have NEVER sold ANY of my guitars before; this is the only way these guitars will leave my possession. I urge you to please spread the word and most of all BID HIGH. You will be putting a huge deposit in the 'karma bank' and have some pretty cool guitars to show for it. DO IT!"

More information will be posted online as it is made available.
