Progressive death metal outfit Fallujah is currently at Sharkbite Studios with producer Zack Ohren recording the follow-up to 2014 release "The Flesh Prevails" (reviewed here).
The as-of-yet-untitled-album is set to be mixed and mastered next month with Mark Lewis in Orlando, FL at Audiohammer. Vocalist Alex Hofmann comments:
"We took a considerable amount of time off this year aiming to make not just a new record, but one that sets a new bar for not just ourselves but the genre as a whole. As we begin to enter the studio, we all agree that we've achieved exactly what we set out to achieve. We also have two of the best minds in the game right now (Zach Ohren and Mark Lewis), working together to make this record the best sounding Fallujah release to date. There is a lot of stuff heating up right now, including new tours for 2016, and we couldn't be more excited! Stay posted."
A release for the album is tentatively scheduled for some time in the first half of 2016 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. Until then, you can catch the band on upcoming U.K. tour dates this December with Carnifex, Within The Ruins, and The Last Ten Seconds To Life.

Metalsucks.net's South By South Death showcase featured guitar shredders. Tech death bands Archspire and Allegaeon were in full force, but before they hammered out their first blast beats, a different kind of shredder took the stage. Myrone is a one-man guitar virtuoso hailing out of Los Angeles, California. The sole member of Myrone was similar to Buckethead in that he wore a mask. Many of the long notes he held was reminiscent of Joe Satriani. He later admitted to me that Satriani is a major influence. He played his guitar over top of ‘80s style keyboard samples, which were part of a soundtrack to a video game.
Metal bands at SXSW and metal showcases have been released to the public. The Dirty Dog Bar is a major player at this year's festivities. Both Metalsucks.net's South By South Death and Metal Injection's showcases will take place in this venue. Saturday offers three big shows and a chance to see some bands such as The Skull and Goatsnake twice. More...
MetalSucks has announced the fifth annual South By South Death event, a SXSW showcase taking place in Austin, TX.
This year MetalSucks is teaming up with WSOU to present the showcase. Says WSOU program director Rohit Ravi: “WSOU is extremely excited to be returning to Austin for SXSW. As one of the premiere metal stations in the USA we could not be happier to partner with MetalSucks to present the heaviest show in Austin!”
The lineup includes Archspire, Elder, Allegaeon, Byzantine, and Fallujah comprise the meat n’ potatoes of the bill, while Norma Jean comes back for a second South by South Death appearance to headline, and #softshred pioneer Myrone will get the party started.
The action takes place on Wednesday, March 18th at The Dirty Dog in Austin, TX starting at 7pm. SXSW badge holders and wristbands will be let in for free, and there will be a limited number of tickets available to the general public at the door the day of the show only, so make sure you get there early. Nuclear Blast Entertainment has announced the signing of progressive death metal outfit Fallujah. The band hailing from San Francisco Bay Area caused quite a stir amongst the music world with it's 2014 release "The Flesh Prevails."
It topped several "Best of 2014" lists and won over new fans with the band's fresh, emotive, and technically challenging music. As a result, Fallujah has paved the way for a new melodic and atmospheric perspective on death metal.
Says Fallujah: "We're extremely excited to be part of a roster alongside not just great bands, but great people who are dedicated to the craft and enthusiastic about our vision of where we see Fallujah going,"
Adds Nuclear Blast: "Fallujah is all about pushing the envelope, taking risks, and keeping an open mind. With that mentality, we felt Nuclear Blast was the most obvious and logical step for a band such as ours. With our team behind us, we can't wait to see Fallujah grow." More...

Last week, we were forced to cancel the Metalunderground.com Official Podcast due to scheduling conflicts and a relative dearth of fascinating, frightening, or fabulous news. This week, we are back with a vengeance.
In an extended episode, co-hosts Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) and Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) hold a series of intense discussions regarding three different, but equally captivating, current metal topics.
Up first: the seemingly endless recording/production/mixing woes of epic Finnish act Wintersun, which released “Time I” in 2012 after an eight year wait since the now-classic self-titled debut. Fans are poised with bated breath in anticipation of the upcoming sequel, but master songwriter (and admitted perfectionist) Jari Mäenpää just keeps running into delay after delay.
In a fit of frustration, Mäenpää recently took to social media to explain his technological and financial catch-22 vis-à-vis Nuclear Blast Records. Mike and Kevin share some mixed opinions of all this. What do you think?
Next, it’s onto more of the outrageously popular Slipknot, whose only necessary introduction is this: some love to love them, others love to hate them, but no one can fully categorize them (please don’t argue that last point - you’re wrong).
It’s been six years since the best-selling but not-entirely-fan-pleasing “All Hope Is Gone,” and after several dramatic episodes and periods of doubt over the band’s survival, Slipknot has finally unveiled new music from the upcoming fifth studio album: video single “The Negative One.”
We, like most people, think this new stuff carries strong echoes of “Iowa” (2001) and even “Slipknot” (1999). We don’t entirely agree on just how good that is, however. Listen in to find out who you think is right!
Finally, we launch into a detailed reaction to “The Flesh Prevails,” the new full-length from atmospheric, progressive, insert-your-sub-sub-genre death metallers Fallujah. The album is packed with idiosyncrasies both excellent and dubious. Listen in here to check out the full range of opinions, and don’t forget to subscribe via iTunes or RSS. Enjoy!
"The Flesh Prevails," the new full-length behemoth from atmospheric death metal faction Fallujah (reviewed here), debuted at #115 on Billboard's Top 200 chart, #39 on Billboard's Rock chart, #15 on the Hard Rock chart, and #24 on the Independent chart upon its first week of release. Additionally, the album landed at an astounding #2 on the Heatseekers chart.
The album boasts guest appearances from guitarist Christian Muenzner (Obscura, Necrophagist) and the chilling voice of Roniit Alkaya.
Fallujah is currently embarked on a U.S. live takeover as part of this year's crushing Summer Slaughter Tour alongside Morbid Angel, Dying Fetus, The Faceless, Goatwhore and more. Additionally, the band will take part in the Summer Slaughter Canada Club Tour 2014. Set to commence just a few days after the American march draws to a close, the trek runs from August 14th to August 25th followed by three additional performances in Seattle, Portland and Santa Cruz. The band will be joined by The Faceless, Rings Of Saturn, Archspire, Black Crown Initiate and Fatality (on select dates).

8/01/2014 Agora Theatre - Cleveland, OH
8/02/2014 Mojoes - Chicago, IL
8/03/2014 Skyway Theatre - Minneapolis, MN
8/05/2014 The Rave - Milwaukee, WI
8/06/2014 Crofoot Ballroom - Detroit, MI

8/08/2014 Irving Plaza - New York, NY

8/10/2014 The Trocadero - Philadelphia, PA More...
Summer Slaughter came in to the same venue, Scoot Inn, as last year's stop off at Texas' capital city. The mid-July temperatures reached a scorching 99 degrees, which everyone from fans to bands did their best to stay hydrated (kudos to Scoot Inn for providing water). Keep in mind, this was still a good 5 degrees cooler than last year.
In regards to the lineup, Summer Slaughter 2014 featured artists expected from a death metal-based tour. This year the brutality of Morbid Angel, Dying Fetus, Origin and Decrepit Birth replaced the shredding progression of Animals As Leaders and Periphery.
While death metal was at the forefront of this year's festivities, complex timing and long-winded solos were dispersed throughout the bill. Memories In Broken Glass, this year's battle of the bands winner, concentrated less on guitar solos as they did low tuned, (7 or 8-string guitar) jumping rhythms and samples. I'm sure they were happy to have played a showed promoted by Come And Take It Productions as they played in front of an impressive, jumping early crowd. More...
Goatwhore is currently leveling stages across the U.S. on a Summer-long live tirade that includes a twenty-two date run on this year's Summer Slaughter tour.
The band will also be headed to Europe this Fall/Winter supporting Dying Fetus. Set to commence on November 8th in Liege, Belgium, the epic trek will topple nearly four dozen metropolises, coming to a close on December 20th in Leer, Germany. Additional support will be provided by Malevolence and Fallujah.
Goatwhore has been touring in support of the sadistic wares of the recently unleashed "Constricting Rage Of The Merciless" full-length album. The band will celebrate the release with a meet and greet next week at the world famous Grill 'Em All brick and mortar restaurant in Alhambra, California. Kicking off at 7:00 pm on Wednesday July 16th, fans will have a chance to hang with the band, hear the record in full, as well as purchase a copy if they haven't already. See Goatwhore live: More...
With the release of "The Flesh Prevails," the forthcoming magnum opus from atmospheric death metal henchmen Fallujah now almost two weeks away, The Onion's A.V. Club offers up fifth number, "Levitation," for public consumption.
Give it a listen in the SoundCloud player below. Comments vocalist Alex Hoffmann of the newly released song:
"'Levitation' is a track made with the purpose of channeling the most dark and ethereal energies that the album has to offer, swaying away from speed and aggression and into more otherworldly and melancholic themes. This is my personal favorite track on the album and one that we can't wait to play live."
The album was mixed, mastered, and engineered by sound savior Zack Ohren (Suffocation, All Shall Perish) at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California and "The Flesh Prevails" will be released via Unique Leader Records on July 22nd, 2014. Upcoming Fallujah tour dates are available after the jump. More...
It's Friday night, and if you have a beer in your hand, you naturally ought to be listening to two guys yammering about metal. This week on the Metalunderground.com Official Podcast, we apply our finely sharpened critics' scalpels and "rapists' wit" to yet another round of new and upcoming music from a diverse array of bands.
Co-host Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) has a well-documented hankering for technical and progressive metal, and eagerly tackles two fresh new songs, "Sapphire" and "Carved In Stone," from forward-thinking extreme outfit Fallujah.
Co-host Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) offers a stiff double, sans chaser: the much-hyped eponymous debut album from Wovenwar (ex-As I Lay Dying) and "Till Death, La Familia," the seventh disc from New Jersey "Latin metal" sextet Ill Niño. In Mike's opinion, one of these efforts is good... the other ain't so hot. Find out which is which, and why.
Finally, Kevin recaps DevilDriver's recent headlining show at Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale, FL, featuring Whitechapel, Carnifex, Revocation, and Rivers Of Nihil. Check out his reaction to the show (for which we held a promotional ticket giveaway), and if you attended one of the tour dates, see if it approximates your own experience. We want to hear from you!
Today the atmospheric death metal conjurors in Fallujah uncork "Carved From Stone," the second movement from their forthcoming album "The Flesh Prevails."

Comments vocalist Alex Hoffman: "'Carved From Stone' is our most aggressive track; a subtle departure from the ethereal tracks that characterize the rest of the album. The song has a relentless momentum, paired with energetic and suggestive lyrical content; you will surely be hearing this track live this Summer."
"The Flesh Prevails" will be released via Unique Leader Records on July 22nd, 2014 during Fallujah's participation in this year's crushing Summer Slaughter Tour alongside Morbid Angel, Dying Fetus, The Faceless, Goatwhore and more. See complete itinerary below. More...
